Giveaway: Enter to win a $100.00 store credit from The Best Vintage Clothing's wonderful Etsy shop

Earlier this month I celebrated my 32nd birthday and as such, wanted to make sure that lots of gifts were on the docket - not so much for myself, but as for all of you, my wonderful readers.

In mid-July we celebrated with a giveaway from fabulous Etsy artist Sabrina from Inky Notions, and today I'm genuinely excited to bring you a second giveaway before the month wraps up.

If you've been following my site for a while now, chances are you may know that The Best Vintage Clothing has been a long time blog sponsor here. We've held numerous giveaways and collaborative outfit posts on CV over the years, each of which focused on The Best Vintage Clothing's main website.

For this fun giveaway however, the spotlight is on The Best Vintage Clothing's Etsy shop, which - much like their standalone site - teams with a beautiful selection of curated vintage and antique pieces spanning the Victorian era to the late 20th century.

Helmed by Laura (aka, Miss Kitty), a lovely lady who has been in the vintage selling business for many years now, The Best Vintage Clothing is a yesteryear fashion lover's dream.

From frocks to jewelry, hats to handbags, the frequently updated selection of offerings that TBVC provides is sure to delight, inspire and tempt just about any fashionista (see for example, the selection in the image below, all of which are, at the time of writing, available in TBVC's Etsy store).

In addition to the giveaway taking place here today (more dets on that in a moment), The Best Vintage Clothing's Etsy shop is currently holding a fabulous 25% off storewide markdown sale this week (the sale is on until Monday August 1, 2016), so if you've been eyeing a treasure of two over there, now is definitely the time to pounce!

It's such an honour to count The Best Vintage Clothing as one of my blog's longest continuously running sponsors and to have the wonderful opportunity to partner up with them again here this month. We'll be doing so, for an outfit post, a bit later in the year and I can hardly wait for that collaboration either.

I want to sincerely thank TBVC on Etsy for this awesome $100.00 store credit giveaway prize, as well as to express my thanks to all of you who take part in this contest.

Though February and early March have seen much more rain than snow around these parts, that doesn't mean that we've having roasty-toasty days by any means. Almost all have called for layers and, quite frequently, the wearing of gloves.

It's scarcely a state secret that I'm wild about gloves, but would you believe it, for all the pairs in my collection, I did not have a single example of knit fingerless gloves!

Not, that is, until very recently when my lovely friend Karen from the fantastic Etsy shop Bobbins & Bombshells (as well as the eponymously named Bobbins & Bombshells blog) contacted me to see if I'd be interested in receiving and reviewing a pair of her handmade crochet fingerless gloves.

Complimentary gloves? Yes, pretty please! :) Karen is a passionate crafters and vintage seller alike, with offerings in both camps to be had in her delightful Etsy shop, and I could tell just from the photos alone that her various styles of fingerless gloves were expertly made, so I was really keen to try them out.

Karen zipped them my way in an absolute flash and I have to say, they're even more charming and beautiful in person. I'd spoke with Karen beforehand about the fact that I'm allergic to lamb's wool (it usually gives me hives), but I needn't have worried, because a number of her knits are offered in alternative yarn materials, such as prima cotton.

These hand warmers are indeed very well made, and - if you'll forgive the rather obvious pun - they fit like a glove. The specific pair that opted for is called Lady Bows Crochet Fingerless Gloves in Ivory with Black Bows Pima Cotton and they retail for $40.00, which is quite reasonable considering that each pair is hand crocheted by Karen herself.

Generally speaking, I tend to associate fingerless gloves (often of the lace variety) with the Victorian era and, in more recent human history, goth fashions (both of which I love to no end), but that isn't to say that they can't easily be woven into a mid-century ensemble as well.

I gave a lot of thought to how to style these adorable cream and black crocheted hand warmers and kept coming back to the same general outfit concept in my head. I'd pull on two of my perpetual winter wardrobe staples (black and grey) to pick up the black in the gloves, then opt for cream hued accessories to compliment the cream wool that appears in them as well.

In the process of getting dressed, I tried a number of shirts on, but none did it for me quite like this fitted black velvet top from Jones New York. Usually I wouldn't tuck something bulky into high waisted pants (and can see said bulk in these photos, though that's really neither here nor there), but it simply didn't look the vintage part left untucked.

I wanted the focus to rightfully be on these stylish fingerless gloves from Bobbins & Bombshells, so I went with a casual look that I described to Tony on the day I wore it as being a bit like Marlene Dietrich meets (subtle) corp goth.

For the shoot itself, we selected a scenic vantage point near the small Southern Okanagan town of Osoyoos on a day when the wind chill brought the temps down below freezing at that altitude and gloves were definitely needed!

Part vintage, part goth, part lolita style, and entirely sweet looking, these hand crocheted gloves were an awesome item to work with in terms of styling - not to mention a comfortable way to keep the covered parts of my hands warm.

Karen's work is skilled, stylish and fun and I want to wholeheartedly thank her for bestowing these gloves on me.

Not only was she generous in that regard, but she has very kindly offered to partner with my blog this week for a fantastic giveaway. Read on for all the exciting details!

Giveaway details:

Enter below for your chance to win a $40.00 USD store credit from Bobbins & Bombshell's Etsy shop that you can use to put towards the purchase price of any item(s) available there at the time that you redeem your prize (as many of Karen's gloves are $40, so this prize value works out splendidly if you’re looking to pick up a pair).

This giveaway is open to participants worldwide and you can enter using as many of the following eleven Rafflecopter different options as you desire.

The only one that is required for entry is that you please leave a comment on this post letting me know what your favourite item is in Bobbin's & Bombshell's shop.

This giveaway will run from today's date (Wednesday March 9th) until Tuesday March 15, 2016, after which time I will draw the randomly selected winner and in turn contact that person to inform them of the good news.

I will then be in touch with Karen who will provide the winner with further details regarding how to claim their prize of a $40.00 USD Bobbins & Bombshells Etsy shop store credit.

If you have any questions about this giveaway, please zip me an email anytime.

I love that I now have a pair of fingerless crochet gloves. There's something really exciting about styling them, especially when trying to do so in a vintage/vintage inspired outfit context.

As the last vestiges of winter are still lingering, I suspect I'll get to enjoy these beautiful hand warmer for at least a few more weeks and will certainly be donning them inside throughout the year, too, as they're perfect for those like myself who often have chilly hands.

Thank you again, Karen, for this marvelous collaboration, and many thanks to all of you as well for taking part in this giveaway. Best of luck to everyone!

BOOK GIVEAWAY: Win a copy of I Love Those Earrings from Schiffer Publishing

For months, nay, years even before my 13th birthday, I knew exactly what I wanted as my gift when that milestone day finally arrived: to get my ears pierced. My parents wouldn't allow me to do so before then and I'd secretly dreamed for as long as I could recall of the right of passage that would be that big day. Naturally when my 13th birthday did finally arrive, I beelined it down to the local Claire's and got my ears pierced.

I beamed with joy looking in the mirror at the small pair of "sleeper" studs that the young woman at Claire's had shot through my lobes with that high pressure piercing gun. If the experience hurt, I didn't feel it at all. I was far too hopped up on excitement and joy. In quick succession over the next four years, I would get - and still have - three more holes in each ear. Making up, I'm the first to admit, in doing so for having to wait (unlike most of my friends and schoolmates) so long to get my first piercing and also because I've always adored the look of multiple holes in each ear.

Even with my pesky nickel allergy, I've been able to find and make some great, safe earrings over the years and wear a pretty pair in my lowest hole (the one I got on my 13th birthday) nearly every day of the year, very much including for the outfit shoots that we do here for my blog (simple studs usually call the other holes home).

Earrings are one of my favourite accessories ever and I adore that now my Etsy shop gives me the perfect place to sell those (vintage) ones that I come across, but know I can't safely wear myself due to the possible prescience of nickel in them. In general though, I've long been fascinated with this truly timeless accessory and was thrilled with my lovely friends over at Schiffer Publishing recently asked me if I'd like to do a giveaway for one of their marvelous books called (fittingly, I thought) I Love Those Earrings.

This expansive tomb is the most thorough work I've ever seen on the history, lore, social purposes, culture roles, and beauty of the humble earrings. Authors Jane Merrill and Chris Filstrup do a superb job of taking the reader through not only the history of earrings, but their own experiences with collecting these tiny works of jewelry, all the while highlighting their writing with scores of prints of famous works of art involving earrings, illustrations, and photographs.

This book traces the roots of earrings back to their earliest forms and continues that history right up to some of the best and most sought after modern designers. An engaging, eloquently written read that I couldn't put down, I Love Those Earrings is a must for any costume jewelry, vintage, antique, historical costume, or fine jewelry fan - especially since it's size (dimensionally, I mean) and hardcover make it an excellent choice for a coffee table book.

In addition to kindly sending me a copy to review, Schiffer has generously offered to send a copy of I Love Those Earrings to one lucky Chronically Vintage reader. This contest is open to readers worldwide and believe me, you'll want to enter - this is by far one of the most enjoyable, fascinating jewelry related books I've ever read and I can't imagine any fellow fellow of such not adoring this book as much as I did.

It's been a long, long time since I first got my ears pierced back on my 13th birthday, I still get excited each time I buy or create a new pair of earrings for myself and felt a similar thrill as I read, and found myself thoroughly captivating, by I Love Those Earrings from Schiffer Publishing.

And speaking of birthdays, today's just happens to be Tony's (we'll be celebrating it, much like mine last month, together once he gets back in September from working in the States this summer), so I thought that I would share in the festive spirit of such with all of you by starting this fun book giveaway today on August 6th.

Enter to win a fantastic Wind at My Back prize pack

In John Steinbeck's unendingly classic book The Grapes of Wrath, which delves into the heart of life and all its hardships during the Great Depression, there is a line that always springs to mind for me when I think of the excellent Canadian television series Wind at My Back, itself also set during the heartbreakingly hard years of the dirty thirties: "How can we live without our lives? How will we know it’s us without our past?"

For those who are not acquainted with this show from Sullivan Entertainment (the same production company that created the beloved Anne of Green Gables movies and the Road to Avonlea TV series, amongst other excellent works), it was a wholesome Canadian television series that focused on the lives of the fictional Bailey family, who were indeed struggling to keep their lives, memories, and the family itself intact despite the overwhelming odds against them.

The series was set in the (also fictional) little town of New Bedford, Ontario and has at times been likened to a Canadian version of The Waltons, though there are a good many differences between the two shows.

{Many of the key characters from Wind at My Back, some more lovable than others certainly, but all equally important to the dynamics of this wonderful Canadian period drama series.}

Loss and hardship, death and separation, sorrow and triumph all ring loudly through this family friendly show, which followed on the heels of (but wasn't tied to) Sullivan Entertainment's beloved Road to Avonlea, which wrapped up regular series filming the same year (1996) that Wind at My Back was launched. Running for five seasons of thirteen episodes a piece (followed by a made-for-TV Christmas themed movie), this series, like everything Sullivan Entertainment creates, was incredibly endearing, enjoyable and beautifully done.

From the period appropriate vintage and vintage reproduction clothing that was used throughout all five seasons (some of which, worn by cast members themselves, is now available to buy in Sullivan Entertainment's terrific online store called Shop at Sullivan, along with pieces from some of the company's other movies and TV series) to the soulful, gripping acting of the characters, especially the character Honey Bailey who endears more than her fair share of hardship right off the bat, Wind at My Back speaks to history fans and admirers of great family programming alike.

If we take whodunit mystery series out the equation, objectively, there haven't been a huge number of 1930s themed TV shows over the years, let alone ones set in Canada, and that element too is sure to appeal to many. Though Wind at My Back ceased production thirteen years ago now, its stories and themes are as a timeless as the day is long and filled with the sort of hard hitting, earnest struggles that Steinbeck himself would have instantly been drawn to.

Today, on what just happens to be my darling husband's 34th birthday, I'm immensely happy to let you know that I've teamed up with Sullivan Entertainment for a second (the first, which took place last October, was Road to Avonlea themed) stellar prize pack giveaway for one lucky North American winner. The winner will receive all four of the following items from Sullivan Entertainment's online shop:

-Season 1 of Wind at My Back

-
The Wind at My Back soundtrack

-Wind at My Back cast photographed signed by series creator and producer Kevin Sullivan himself!

-Edwardian Style Clear Rhinestone Necklace and Earrings Set

Whether you've seen every episode of Wind at My Back, have never so much as even heard of it before, or fall anywhere in between, this giveaway is for you. As lovers of all things mid-twentieth century, Wind at My Back speaks to us on so many levels and warrants watching time and again, including with your children (youngsters who are fans of the 1930s themed American Girl dolls Kit and Ruthie are bound to especially adore this series).

From the Depression era fashions and hairstyles to portrayal of the kind of difficulties so many of our own relatives faced during these harrowing years to the heartwarming relationships between the Bailey family members and their ability to ultimately make it through no matter what, this series is ideal for vintage fans fan everywhere.

It is a sincere pleasure and honour to be collaborating with Sullivan Entertainment again for another wonderful giveaway and I want to sincerely thank for the opportunity to do so this month. Many thanks as well to everyone who enters. Best of luck to one and all!

Enter to win a $40 gift certificate from Fairyfiligree

As I sit here in the wee morning hours of the last Sunday in July, it strikes me that it's been a good long while since Chronically Vintage last hosted a giveaway. There's no particular reason for that, though no doubt last year's Vintage 365 project and the whirlwind of activity surrounding our move earlier this year certainly factored in.

As there is no time like the present though - or for a present, come to think of it! – today I'm thrilled to be able to offer all of you the chance to win a $40.00 gift certificate to a wonderful etsy shop called Fairyfilgree that's based out of the beautiful country of Malta.

Featuring a handpicked selection of mid-century clothing, accessories, and jewelry, Fairyfiligree was founded in 2009 a lovely lady named Marika who has a lifelong passion for vintage clothing and jewelry (as evident by her eponymously named blog, Fairyfigree).

Culling items from the sunny, gorgeous island of Malta, as well as her travels to Italy and elsewhere throughout Europe, Marika presents shoppers with a fun, fashionable mix of reasonably priced pieces that primarily hail from the 1950s through to the 80s. Many of her pieces radiate an chic, appealing Mediterranean vibe that help them standout from the etsy crowd, such as the terrific items pictured below.

Enter to win three gorgeous pendant necklaces from Know Your Onions

In celebration of Victoria Day here in Canada, I thought it was high time we had another giveaway on Chronically Vintage (holidays do tend to naturally equate themselves well with gifts after all!).

Recently I was contacted by a talented woman (Jayne) from the UK who runs a seriously interesting line of jewelry products by the rather fascinating name of Know Your Onions (for those on this side of the pond who may not be - as I previously wasn't - familiar with the expression "know your onions", it's a British phrase that means to be knowledgeable or experienced about, or in, in a particular subject).

To be honest, I'm contacted by a fair number of jewelry designers on a regular basis, yet when I decide to do a giveaway, I like to partner with artisans and companies that stand out from the pack in some regard, and for Know Your Onions does just that - thanks in large part to the engagingly unique, heirloom quality look of the line's intriguingly lovely pieces.

Crafted in slate and ivory hued resin, these pieces feature images with an etched looking design that instantly evokes an old fashioned charm, yet also manages to seem very current and on trend. Jayne cites the classic art of scrimshaw as one of the key influences behind what led her to create these pieces and upon seeing the items in the Know Your Onions line, one instantly sees a similarity between these (entirely animal friendly) resin pieces and the famous whale boning carvings of yesteryear.

Amongst the goods up for offer in the Know Your Onions line, one finds bangles, brooches and pendant necklaces, each of which is available in a wide array of seriously charming designs.

From a delightfully fun vintage tattoo inspired sailor girl brooch to a whimsical peacock feather patterned bracelet, the jewelry items in this line offer up an understated, immensely wearable allure and glamour that makes them terrifically easy to pair with a myriad of vintage and modern looks alike.

For the past week I've had the pleasure of wearing one of Know Your Onion's pendant necklaces (which, as someone with a fierce allergy to nickel - and thus a need to avoid a lot of jewelry that isn't free of this pesky metal - I am over-the-moon happy about, because it's entirely free of any metal components, being strung on a black that ribbon that is so gentle and soft on the skin you forget you're wearing it entirely), and must say – unbiasedly - that it's become my new favourite necklaces.

The ivory pocket watch pendant - which instantly telegraphs a sense of both steampunk chic and stunning vintage elegance - is substantial, yet not heavy or straining on the neck. It lays beautifully on one's skin and has a pleasant natural coolness to it that makes it especially lovely to sport now that we're heading in the scorchingly hot days of summer.

The ivory and black finish of this pendant makes it an instant neutral that pairs well with a vast number of colours and fabric choices.

I tried it out with everything from a vintage black and pink floral print dress to a rusty pumpkin hued fitted t-shirt and it looked fantastic with each colour - and pattern - I wore (in fact, I think I'd be hard pressed to find a shade this pendant clashed with!). Once tied securely, the silk cord stayed done up all day long and the pendent did a terrific job of remaining in place (I don't recall it flipping over once).

Perhaps above all else though, it looked seriously gorgeous. Banish any preconceived notions you might have about resin jewelry being best suited for middle schoolers or looking too twee from your mind. This pendant, which has an almost antique porcelain look to it, is seriously fashionable, wonderfully grown up, and more elegant than a room full of royals.

As such, I'm bubbling with happiness about the fact that I have a prize pack of three splendidly beautiful, delightfully vintage inspired Know Your Onions pendant necklaces (worth £65.00/approx. $105.00 US) to giveaway to one very lucky winner.

{The winner of this awesome three piece necklace set will win one of each of the – slate compass, ivory dragonfly, and slate heart - pendants shown above. These wonderfully attractive pendants are very nicely sized, the slate grey heart, for example, measures in at 78mm H x 59mm W.}

If you'd like to enter for your chance to win (and, I assure you, you do - these pendants are seriously stellar!), you've got five easy ways to so.

1.) Post a comment below about your favourite item from Know Your Onions line of chicly beautiful resin jewelry.

2.) Post about this giveaway (be sure to include a link back to this announcement post) on your own blog, telling your readers about this fun contest. Once you’ve written about the giveaway, come back here and let me know you’ve done so by leaving a comment with a link back to your post.

3.) Add Chronically Vintage to your blog roll (or other area of your site/blog where you list some of your favourite blogs) – or mention if you’re already doing so. Stop by to let me know in the comment section that CV’s on your blog roll, and you’ll gain another entry for the contest.

4.) Become (or let me know if you already are) a Google Follower of Chronically Vintage (see the right hand side bar to join), then take a moment and leave a comment saying so.

5.) Spread the good word about this contest via Twitter or Facebook. Again, be sure to jot down a comment letting me know you've done that.

Everybody is welcome to enter in however many of the five ways they wish, just be sure that you let me know about each entry in a separate comment, to better enhance your chances of winning (four comments for example, would give you four entries into the contest, thus four potential chances to win!). Please remember to post a separate comment for each entry!

This giveaway is open to participants from around the world (I've received the pendants from Jayne already and will be sending them on the lucky winner personally), and will run until 11:59pm EST on Sunday June 29th.

The winner will be drawn (using a random number generator) the following day, contacted directly (via email and/or through a blog comment on their site) and announced shortly thereafter in a Chronically Vintage post.

As well, starting today (June 23rd) and running until June 30, 2011, Chronically Vintage readers can take advantage of a wonderful 15% discount on all Know Your Onions pieces purchased from the Know Your Onions website. To avail of this great discount, enter coupon code vintage upon check out and 15% will automatically be whisked away from your total.

I want to thank Jayne for the opportunity to partner with Know Your Onions for this excellent giveaway. Her pieces are precisely the kind of vintage influenced, skilfully handcrafted jewelry (Jayne has a professional background in textile design and the ceramic industry, which instantly shines through in her exquisite pieces) that I - and I know a lot of my readers - utterly adore. I will cherish my Victorian pocket watch necklace forever - and know that it will be of the most frequently worn items of jewelry I own.

Massive thanks as well to everyone who enters this fabulous blog giveaway, I wish you the best of luck and can't wait to bestow this marvelous trio of pendants on one of my readers!
