Generally speaking, there isn't a "straight up" size-to-size conversion from vintage to modern clothing sizes. The best and most reliable approach is to know your current measurements and then shop for vintage clothing in the same measurement range.

That said... :)

Very, very broadly speaking, a current US size 12-14 would stand to be close to a mid-century (1940s to early 60s) size 20 - 24.

Hope this helps you. Sturdy cloth napkins and similar fabric items (e.g., dish towels) can also work great for storing and/or transporting a few brooches as well. I usually adopt that approach when travelling with some of my beloved brooches, as it's lightweight, reliable and makes it so easy to see which pins I have to hand while away from home.

Many thanks for your comment. Though CV is now retired, I do try to reply to continued comments here as often as I can. :)

If memory serves me right, those earrings hailed from the accessories chain Claire's (http://www.claires.com). They tend to have a relatively fast turn over of merchandise, so I'd be quite surprised if this exact pair was still in stock, but as they do sell a lot of really cute/quirky/kitschy earrings, there's always a chance that they might have something similar in stock these days.

Hope that helps a wee bit. I had no idea she had worked there (in San Francisco 1962–1963)! My mother was a master seamstress from Italy. It was her first job in the US.
