Honoured to be featured on That's a Pretty Hat

Though, like many of you, I (proverbially) eat, sleep, and breath vintage fashion day in and day out, that doesn't mean I'm not inspired by other peoples' styles, too, even if they veer more on the modern side of things. This rings especially true if a fellow fashion blogger and I happen to share a passion for a particular brand, garment or accessory.

Earlier this year I discovered a wonderful blog that's helmed by a very stylish lady named Kathleen Lisson (pictured below in a sublimely lovely Ellen Christine hat and Reiss dress). What makes her site - called That's a Pretty Hat - especially noteworthy is the fact that Kathleen in a hat loving woman after my own heart. From casual to royal wedding worthy, this well dressed blogger's posts are jam packed with one inspiring, beautiful hat after hat another, each of which is paired with Kathleen's refinded, elegant modern style (which strikes me very much as being 21st Jackie O or Grace Kelly).

We've been commenting on one another's blogs for a while now, and it was with much excitement that I recently received an email from Kathleen asking if I'd like to be included in part of a post she was planning about hat fellow loving bloggers. As you can imagine, I jumped at the chance and enthusiastically wrote back at the speed of light.

Kathleen asked me to share some of my thoughts on the wearing of hats as an accompaniment to the two photos of me (which long time readers may recall from this shoot last March) included in her post, which you can read here.

I adored getting a chance to share some virtual page space with a handful of fellow hat lovers, whose styles, though much more modern than mine, are certainly inspiring and joy to find myself amongst. If you haven't had an opportunity to discover Kathleen's blog yet, it's a definite must for hat fans of all sorts, whether you reach for the mid-century designs like I do, or straight-off-the-F/W 2012 runway styles. (and everything in between!)

Many sweet thanks for including me as part of your first post on fellow chapeau adoring gals, Kathleen. I can't wait to see, and be inspired by, future editions of this series!

  3. Congrats! I have several hats but don't wear them because I don't have anything to wear with them (in my mind).

    1. While some hats can certainly be trickier than others to weave into your wardrobe, I bet you look wonderful in all of yours and could put together an outfit around at least one or two of them. If you'd ever like my two cents worth, feel free to send me photos (or links to photos) of your toppers and I'll let you know how I might style them if they were my hats.

    1. I love that you're a vintage hat fan, too! While I wholeheartedly wish that the wearing beautiful hats was still the norm, I definitely sport mine all the time "just because", as wearing them brings me such joy (as I'm sure yours do for you).

  7. Congratulations on a well deserved accolade Jessica. Being only a recent visitor to your charming blog I had not seen the photos of you from the 'March shoot'. I've never had much luck with hats especially smaller hats.
The only ones which suit me are the Akubra/Stetson type hat which are a wardrobe necessity particularly during our hot Summers in Australia.

    1. Thank you very much, dear lady! When I was little - growing up in era when the word hat was pretty much synonymous with baseball caps - I really thought I wasn't a "hat person", because almost none of the ones I tried looked good on me. Jump ahead a number of years and I was thrilled to discover it just a matter of not being a modern hat person. While not all vintage hat styles work me (for example, I've yet to find a cloche that didn't make me look horrendous!), the smaller and larger (as in wide brimmed) often do, so I sport - and buy - them often.

I suspect we could find a hat or two in my collection that would look absolutely lovely on you, too.

    1. Thank you very much, dear gal. Tony loves the photos from that day's shoot so much he had one (a close-up face shot) enlarged and framed, and it's now hanging on his office wall.

  11. Every time the hubby and I go antiquing, I always try on all the hats but never buy any. I love them but I guess I feel self conscious wearing one. I'm not sure why though because I often sported a red hat in high school.

Kudos to you being featured in your awesome hat!

    1. Thank you so much, sweet dear! I really believe any woman can wear vintage hats. At first it might seem a little strange (yes, people will stare sometimes, but in my experience, usually you'll also get tons of compliments, especially if you're wearing a vintage hairstyle and outfit to match, too), but if you start with a basic shape and neutral hue, it should be pretty easy to introduce into your wardrobe. Once you're more comfortable with that first hat (if you want to), branch out and get a couple more, then another and so on and so on. Believe me, before you know it, you'll have more hats than you can shake a hat pin at and you'll love wearing them. :)
