My name is Jessica Cangiano and this is the corner of the good ol' interwebs in which I write about my lifelong immense fascination with history, particularly the mid-twentieth century (1920s-1950s), which has always been a time period that enthralls and delights me to no end, as well as where I share photographs of the vintage outfits I wear. Thrown into the mix you'll find various other topics as well, such vintage recipes and my musings on assorted elements of daily life.
By trade I'm a commercial photographer, stylist, and freelance writer, who has been obsessed with history for as long as I can truly remember. I am also my family's genealogist, a poet, a daydreaming realist, a scrapbook artist, and a passionate collector of more than enough things to earn me the right to call myself eclectic.
Most days you'll find me sporting genuine vintage, vintage reproduction, or vintage appropriate fashions, hairstyles and make-up looks from the 1940s and 50s, my two most favourite decades of all time from a sartorial standpoint. Occasionally I dabble in looks from other time periods or styles, but no matter what time period I'm channeling, the common thread that runs through my wardrobe choices are femininity, romance, good tailoring, and a huge love of dresses and skirts.
My vintage style is influenced by a considerable number of sources, from fellow fashion bloggers to the alluring glamour of old Hollywood. Throughout my life one of the most resounding sources of fashion inspiration has been photographs (and illustrations) of real "everyday" women of decades past. I take a great deal of joy out of styling many of my looks after the ladies of the 40s and 50s, of my grandparents generation, who were not rich and famous, but rather they comprised the bulk of the world's population and so are who I like to believe I would most likely resemble if I were to magically transport back in time to those very days.
I'm beyond blessed to have found my soulmate (and fellow English bulldog admirer) in the form of my caring/sweet/genuine/immensely smart/generous/thoughtful/funny/adorable husband, Antonio (who takes most of the vintage outfits photos you see here).
Whether in terms of standing with me in the face of the numerous chronic illnesses that I'm affected by, supporting my endless passion for all things vintage, or whispering I love you to me in his gorgeous Italian accent, my life is indescribably wonderful because he's at the heart of it.
Together we live in the breath-taking desert landscape of Penticton, British Columbia (that's Canada, eh!), with our darling fur baby, Stella, my ever-increasingly larger vintage wardrobe and book/magazine collection, and all of our hopes and dreams for the future.
