Follow me on Instagram

This past Christmas Tony gave me one of the most fantastic presents I've ever received: an iPhone 5. Not only was this wildly generous, it was also massively unexpected, because I still had about 27 months left to go at the time on the contract on my previous cell phone, which meant that in addition to getting me an iPhone, he had to buy out the remainder of my old cell's contract plan.

Like many people, I'd been yearning for an iPhone for quite some time, but prior to Christmas, believed that it would be some 27 months before getting one ever became a reality. I have zero qualms with admitting that a big part of the reason why I wanted an iPhone was for it's great (as far as cell phones go) camera.

I have a beloved Canon DSLR that I've use for both my work and many of the photos I take of things in my daily life, but there are time - many times - when it can be more practical and/or handier to simply slip your cell phone into your purse or pocket and use it as your go-to (or secondary) camera when out and about (or trying to capture a very camera shy cat - yes, Miss Stella, I'm talking about you - doing something adorable at home).

Following on the heels of wanting an iPhone for it's terrific photography capabilities, I've been hankering to join, and share pictures on, Instagram for ages now. Blogger after wonderful blogger that I follow seemed to already be on Instagram, and I'll admit, I was feeling a touch left out. As such, once my feet came back down to the ground again after receiving my new iPhone (my first ever, I should mention) last December, pretty much the first thing that I did was to join Instagram.

In the months since then, I've followed many of the aforementioned bloggers there, and have been so touched by all of those folks who have already followed me. I really want to connect with more of you there, so today I'm formally inviting you to follow me on Instagram.

Please let me know if you do in the comments (with your Instagram handle - I'm @chronicallyvintage) so that I can be sure to follow you back.

Though I still very much feel like I have a ton to learn about iphoneography, I'm educating myself more on this topic every day and likewise taking snaps as often as possible. My favourites of which end up on my Instagram feed, where you'll see photos of everything from Annie and Stella to me in vintage outfits, thrifted treasures to the beautiful landscapes that surrounds us here in British Columbia.

I cannot thank Tony enough for giving me my first iPhone, which in turn allowed me to finally join Instagram and connect with all of you there at long last. Best Christmas gift EVER!!! :)

  1. Wow, that's so sweet of Tony. I don't have a Iphone /smartphone and not planning on getting one yet.

But I really like Instagram, it's a great medium to share bits of your life. It's just nog enough to switch over to a more expensive cell phone at this moment, maybe somewhere in the future, who knows.

    1. Thank you, Sean, that is so very sweet (I used to say the same thing to fellow vintage bloggers all the time before last Christmas, too). Presently one has to have either an iPhone or an Android phone to use Instagram (and they're official FAQ doesn't make it sound like they're rushing to extend the app to other mobile devices all that quickly: http://instagram.com/about/faq).

It's so unfair, I truly know! I think that you can see indiviual Instagram photos if the link appears somewhere (such as Twitter), because I used to click on such links from some of the people I follow on Twitter and be able to see them, even though I wasn't registered with Instagram yet.

The night before last, I added an Instagram widget to my side bar here, that will show a few of the most recent photos I've uploaded there. I know it's not the same, but it is a way to see some of my iPhone snaps. I'm sure I'll be using iPhone photos in blog posts from time-to-time too, so that's another way.

  3. I don't have a cell phone because I just hate calling and being available everywhere at anytime (but people can always reach me through e-mail), so I can't follow you on Instagram, but I just wanted to say that the jaguar print shoes are just GORGEOUS!!

    1. Hi Liz, I completely understand! Whether via landline or mobile, I have never (ever!) been a big fan of phone calls either (with few exceptions made for close loved ones), and use my cell primarily as a camera, as a way to text, and to have on hand in case of emergencies.

Thanks! Those shoes were a thrifted find back in January. I got them 50% off and I think they were either $2.50 or $3.00.

  4. That was very sweet of him!I admit I love my iphone so much more as a camera and the apps than for an actual phone, not much of a phone person. Its also been a life saver for be cause my camera died and I can't afford to replace it so my iphone has allowed me to still take the photos I want and do etsy listings.

  5. You can use instagram with iPad too (which is what I use lol). I wish instagram would allow you to upload photos through computers too ;)

    1. It would be oodles easier if they did that for sure. I've not tried this approach myself, but here's one workaround that seems like it might do the trick: http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57538712-285/workaround-lets-you-upload-instagram-photos-from-your-desktop-computer/

  8. Awesome! That's such a fantastically thoughtful present, and if there's anybody who should be on Instagram, it's you. And I see that you're not opposed to posting copious cat pictures! You and I are clearly very Insta-compatible. ;)

  10. I've just added you Jessica, though all the apps keep crashing on my phone so I'm not on Instagram very much these days.
I was so excited when I got my iphone too. I got it for free from my husband's work mate because it was an old model and had a broken screen, so to him it was useless, but to me it was state of the art technology and it only cost me £20.00 to get the screen fixed. That's the good thing about Pat working with lots of young men, we get all their cast off phones because they always want the latest one.
Like you, I use my phone much more as a camera and to check the internet than for calls, though I like family and close friends being able to get hold of me wherever I am. xx

    1. It's astonishing, at times, what a throwaway society we've become as a whole. I love that you were able to breath new life in an older iPhone for a mere 20 pounds - that's the kind of make do and mend attitude our mid century foremothers would be proud of.

Thank you very much for following me, darling gal, I'm doing the same for you now, too.

      Have a joyful weekend!

I am not very techy - my cel phone is a Nokia and i just transitioned out of a blackberry - so i am kind of into vintage communications :)
