On previous occasions, you've seen my parents deck and backyard, but so far we haven't ventured inside to take vintage outfit snaps. Not that, is until a few days ago, in the midst of the torrential rain we were getting here for more than a week straight.
Earlier one evening after a quick trip up to Kelowna to do some much needed clothes shopping for Tony, we headed over to my parent's house for an absolutely delicious hot dog and marshmallow (aka, s'mores!) roast. It was the first of the season and a much needed way to warm up after getting pelted with near freezing rain as we stopped en route to pick up some juicy locally grown apples as a hostess gift for my folks.
As my step-dad stoked the fire downstairs, Tony very quickly grabbed a few shots of me in my parent's beautiful living groom. Though I probably could have busted out my winter coat that day when I got dressed, I opted instead for a sturdy, much loved burgundy corduroy blazer atop a high necked plaid blouse (with a slip an unseen camisole underneath for a little extra warmth). I have very few blazers (or suits, for that matter), so there's a good chance you'll see this berry hued jacket again in the coming (chilly!) weeks and months.
I wish we'd gotten more close-up shots for this outfit, but hungry relatives were beckoning us 'round the fire's glow, so we didn't have time for a longer shoot like we usually aim for. The hat that's I'm wearing here was an awesome gift from Tony earlier this year. It's an inky shade of navy blue and has the loveliest dark green, black and blue swirled feathered on the side. Sturdy, wonderfully warm, and it works like a charm for the nippy weather we're getting here more and more often lately.
The brooch, though certainly vintage or even antique looking, is in fact neither, and was picked up a few months ago on eBay for less than ten dollars. I've always adored the classic beauty of cameos and enjoy sporting them year round, but especially, I find when my fall and winter wardrobe comes out of hibernation.
The weenie and 'mallow feast was a roaring success (fire pun intended), as was Tony's shopping, so all in all it was definitely a terrific - if a somewhat bone chilling - autumn day, and sneak peek into how I think many a winter evening will be spent this year.
