...Before we officially put (well, in so much as such a bold statement can ever be uttered on Canadian soil) winter to rest.

Actually, we've been snow-free for quite a while now due to the milder-than-usual February and March that we've been treated to. In place of the usual lashings of snow and ice that often fill these months here, it's mostly been rain, rain and more rain, with occasional - and wholly welcomed - pockets of sunshine.

Naturally then, as you may have guessed, these photos were taken (on my parents deck) back when the world was still a Christmas card worthy winter wonderland of icicles, tranquil falling snow, and enough white stuff on the ground to make a million friends for Frosty.

Those of you who follow me on YouTube (where, you know, I post videos in rapid flurries of activity at least once a year :P), may recall when, last summer, I thrifted the 1940s style bomber jacket from Value Village (as I mentioned it in this video). Hailing from the Canadian clothing chain Suzy Shier originally, this thrift store score was a dream come true on the fashion front for me.

More often than not, bomber style jackets look atrocious on me. Like, we're talking scary bad. So much so, that I've almost relegated them to the realm of vintage garments that I (just about) never wear.

Luckily however, I didn't throw in the towel entirely and the moment that I slipped this dark brown faux leather 1940s style bomber jacket on in the aisle right there at Value Village, I knew it was love at first sight (and my sweet mom, who was with me, thought so as well, which was great to hear). Needless to say, I bought it instantly and have been living in this jacket as part of many of my casual ensembles ever since.

Wonderfully warm and fabulously old school looking, this is the kind of easy-going jacket everyone's wardrobe would be bettered by. Another thing that makes your closet even more enjoyable is when you've got the perfect 1940s, or 1940s style, accessories to pair with said bomber jacket.

For me, one of those is unequivocally this flat out awesome 1940s style floral print head wrap that my dear friend Cherry, from She Knits in Pearls, recently sent to me as a very thoughtful review present (thank you so much, darling gal!).

Last year Cherry and her mom, both talented sewers, launched the beautifully named Lacey Rose Creations on Etsy (as well as a companion Instagram account of the same name - and you can also see more of Cherry's creative happening and daily life on her personal Instagram as well), where they sell a lovely selection of handmade items, including head wraps in the same style as this gorgeous rose print number, as well as fabric headbands, kitchen linens, and other fun delights.

At first glance, you might think that this wrap was a regular style scarf tied up 1940s war worker style, but in fact, it is a brilliantly designed head wrap that strikes one as being somewhat akin to a roomy shower cap in the way its designed (I say that in a totally positive light).

It's also a bit like a snood and pre-made turban in the sense that one simply places the wrap on their head and adjusts it to fit however they want. The elastic edges keep it in place and pre-tied bow makes it look as though you are indeed sporting a traditional headscarf, only you're not.

No, this easier and quicker, and every bit (if not more so) as comfortable. It's a brilliant design and way to quickly get a 40s style look up top without a lot of time or effort (always handy for the busy lives so many of us lead). I really hope that Cherry and her mom keep producing more of these comfy cotton head wraps, because I'm beyond addicted to my first one and would love to add more to my wardrobe as time goes on.

If you haven't checked out Cherry's shop yet, I highly encourage you to do so. The items that she and her mom are producing are all terrific looking and very reasonably priced, too, may I add.

I had a bunch of cooking for family events and running around to do on the day that these photos were taken, so to compliment the casual bomber jacket and lovely head wrap, I added a pair of 1940s reproduction swing trousers from Heyday, a classic burgundy hued button front shirt, a vintage rose brooch, a gold tone bangle bracelet, an oxblood/burgundy faux leather cross body bag, and my super beloved brown 30s/40s style oxfords to the mix for a fun look that was ideal for checking a million and one things off my to-do list.

This head wrap is warm, but not swelteringly so in the slightest and I'm certain that I'll continue to wear it until the (snow covered) cows come home all year round. If I could wave a magic wand and have a hundred of them in a rainbow of colours and patterns, I happily would - especially given how wonderfully well constructed they are.

So, my dears, this will most likely (again, Canada and all) be the last snow filled post for a few months. We had a great run and enjoyed some really diverse outfits together here this time around.

As we officially embrace springtime, I'm equally excited to share a bounty of fun warm weather looks with you all once more - and who knows, perhaps this head wrap will appear here again when the mercury is as far north as it was south on the day these very snaps were taken. Smile

  1. I'm glad you found a bomber jacket that worked for you because it looks so chic here with the girly bow and awesome trousers. I am so impressed when people set up shops like this and make something of their talents - and make wonderful head wraps that look so fabulous! I like the idea of a pre-bow too; I often find I start the day with a bow that gradually works part of itself loose, often because the wind blows it out of place... The frustration of headscarfs! xx

    1. Thank you very much, sweet CiCi. So true, so true! Wind + nylon/chiffon scarves is not always a good match at all. I've had a few shoots over the years where I was quickly rummaging around in my purse for my emergency stash of bobby pins to help keep a headscarf (or snood) in place during a windy shoot.

I completely agree! It takes so much to put yourself out there online and sell anything, let alone your own handmade wears. I have mad respect for those, very much including Cherry, who do so and really hope that her shop is able to grow and flourish all the more as time goes on.

Big hugs & tons of happy weekend wishes,

    1. Thank you very much, honey. It is, hands down, one of my favourite colour pairings ever, too. Dusty rose and burgundy were our wedding colours and both appear throughout our home decor, too (especially in our master bedroom). Through dark green into the mix and I swoon up a total storm! :)

Have a marvelous first weekend of April!

  3. Lovely outfit. It looks both vintage and modern at the same time, probably because you're using old styles that have become fashionable again. That's a neat magic trick!

    1. What a lovely compliment, Ally. Thank you very much! It's interesting to me that you described this outfit as such, because I've long noticed that even when rocking a thoroughly 1940s (or 50s) style look, if pants are at its heart, people (aka, strangers) tend to stop and stare or approach me with comments about my outfit less than when I'm rocking a skirt or dress. It's so common and accepted (as it should be, of course) to see a woman in pants these days, but funnily enough, just a few decades ago, the opposite reaction would have been true. How times change!

      Wishing you a fantastic weekend!

  6. Ilove the wide legged pants, and that bomber jacket is a great find! I have hard time woth jackets cause I'm so short-waisted. We may be getting a shot of snow tomorrow, I hope not though cause I'm ready for spring! :)

    1. Same here! I tend to have the best luck with fitted blazers (vintage or modern) and then princess cut coats. Beyond that, everything on the jacket/coat front tends to become a murky grey zone of hit and miss, which makes me treasure this fun 40s style bomber all the more. :)

Big hugs & happy weekend wishes,

I've always associated those leather bombers with the early 1970s but the style is absolutely perfect with your era, too. It fits like a dream and looks so good with your wide legged trousers and incredible head wrap. Love the jewel-like colours. xxx

    1. So true, so true! They ruled the casual jacket front in both time periods and are an absolute classic throughout the ages. One of these days, I swear, I'm going to surprise everyone here and dip into the seventies for one of my outfits. I sported a ton of 60s and 70s looks about 16 - 19 years ago and get a craving for them again sometimes.

Big hugs & thank you very much for the splendidly nice compliments,

  9. It's finally nice weather here too! Snow is lovely, but new flowers and a change in temperature really does help. I love the wrap - I keep meaning to add more cotton scarves to my collection, but totally keep forgetting. The wrap style does look way more convenient, though.

I've been wanting those Heyday trousers for well over a year now, but the fact they're polyester puts me off (not very breathable for Lindy hop) - I'd probably still leap at them, though!

Hope you have a great Spring!

    1. That's wonderful! We're still in this strange limbo between the seasons. The temps are heating up, but the world is still barren of new greenery. Soon though, I'm sure I'll be up to my snood in fresh flowers and verdant grass - and I can hardly wait.

I hear you there. I own three pairs of this style of trouser from Heyday (the dark green ones seen here, grey, and a sandy-beige shade) and must say, they're wonderfully breathable and a good medium weight pair of pants. I sported these very trousers on our last two road trips to Vancouver (both ways even in one case). One was in June ('14) the other November (last year) and in both cases, they were extremely comfortable and did a great job of regulating my temperature. I haven't danced in them though, so I can't speak to how they'd do in that regard, but for day-to-day activities, they're tops on the repro trouser front in my books.

Wishing you a fantastic weekend, sweet lady!

    1. Yes, ma'am, these fabulous brown brogues hail from Payless, though I did pick them up two or three winters ago now, so they might not have this exact pair in stock any longer. I adore Payless and miraculously (seriously), their offerings often work well for my hard to fit feet. Sadly, our local Payless and one of the two in the nearby city of Kelowna both shut down a year or two ago, but luckily there's still one in Kelowna and I really, really hope it doesn't fold either. I genuinely don't know where I'll get affordable new shoes that actually fit me, if they do (*shudder*).

I am absolutely in love with you Heyday trousers, that shade of green is so lovely. Let's hope the weather turns up soon! Here in Ontario has been so cold!!

    1. Thank you very much, sweet lady! Aren't these trousers the bee's knees and then some? I've had them for over four years now, worn them countless times (especially in the fall and winter months) and they're still as pristine looking as when I got them (the same rings true of all my Heyday garments). Highly recommended to anyone looking to invest in some great swing pants.

Fingers crossed that spring shows up pronto for you guys. I clearly remember how brutal Ontario winters can be (we lived in TO for six years).

Big hugs & happy Sunday wishes,
      ♥ Jessica

  36. As winter is coming to us down under, I'm really feeling all the vintage and vintage inspired bomber jackets I've been seeing over the last few months... I think I need a bomber now! Plus, it helps that your lovely jacket is set off to perfection by such a great outfit ~ it maybe be geared for the last of the snow, but it has a spring and airy feel to it thanks to that pretty hair scarf! Gorgeous. :) ❤

    1. That's such a lovely comment, dear Bonita, thank you very much. I hope you're able to find a similarly mid-century appropriate bomber jacket in your neck of the woods, too. It's rather surprising, when one stops and thinks about it, that so few repro/vintage style brands have dabbled even the slightest bit in the bomber jacket arena. You'd think given their massive use during the 40s (and to a lesser extent, the 50s) that this is something we'd be seeing period appropriate versions of far and wide. Perhaps one day!

Many hugs & happy wishes for the new week,
      ♥ Jessica

  37. This is such a wonderful casual outfit, looks like it would be comfortable all day long yet is super stylish too. Great colour combination. I really like Cherry's head wraps, I have been thinking about getting one so it was very helpful to read your review.

    1. That's wonderful to hear! I really can't sing their praises highly enough. Whether at home or when out and about, I just live in this floral print beauty that is holding up superbly and transitioning awesomely into spring's warmer temps.

Thank you very much for your immensely nice comment.

      Tons of hugs,
      ♥ Jessica
