{Being of the permanently parched skin type, my lips veer towards the dry side all year round, very much including summer, when the heat seems to zap what little moisture they have in a flash. {Between sandy beaches, tall green grass, and a gloriously warm evening breeze, I just adore feeling the various signs of the season on my feet come summertime, which is why I can never get enough of darling vintage appropriate wedges like these adorable turquoise Zampagni ones featuring a woven heel and lovely rosette on the vamp. €84.00 from Fratelli Karida (*note* they are currently sold out - hopefully they'll come back in stock soon).}

When I was a little girl - much as it still is for many kids in North America - summer break started somewhere around June 29th and continued, joyfully uninterrupted until Labour Day, with the school year kicking off again the next morning. Back then, these first early, awesomely fresh days of July seemed to possess an unlimited amount of possibility, fun, and excitement.
Growing up, sweet treats weren't an every day event at our house by any means (which, to be fair, is a healthier way to eat for sure - and who knows, perhaps it's part of the reason why I've always had more of a "salty tooth" than a sweet one), however when summer rolled around, there always seemed to be more saccharine goodies to be had - be it under our own roof, or, more commonly, at other people's homes.
Looking back on these delightful sugar laden products recently, it struck me that many - from icy cold Freezies to Jolly Ranchers, Snow Cones to pitchers of Kool-Aid - were bursting with vibrant hues that seemed to compliment the heat, sizzling sun, and nature's very own flower garden palette of summer so fantastically well. Coincidence? I think not! :)
These days I eat far less sugar than I did as a child at any point, but that doesn't mean I don't indulge in a sweet treat every now and then. More often than not though, instead of reaching for an ice cream cone, glass of fruit punch, or stick of fairy floss, I have fun splashing the colours of these yummy goodies throughout my hot weather ensembles, which is precisely how I dressed our vintage fashionista - fittingly named Candy - today as well.
Whether you love to indulge in the edible or the wearable confectionery and frozen treat inspired hues of summer (or both!), I hope that each day of this captivating, busy, fantastic season will be filled with as much wonderful, colour and sweetness as it had for us back we were all knee high to a Popsicle.
Ooh, I love all of these things you featured, especially the plaid playsuit and those confetti sunglasses. Swoon!
ReplyDeleteYou always inspires me! Your story about your childhood has brought back memories to me of my own childhood. Thanks dear Jessica, for so sweet post!

Your blog is always fun to read. Like eating candy!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely, sunny, fresh and cheerful candy colours. I can imagine someone in this ensemble and they would look charming. I love the sunglasses with the confetti effect and the beaded bag is super.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with that Trashy Diva Beach set....but I am way too old to be flashing my lily white midriff around the place. *shudder*
ReplyDeleteI need to eat less sugar but I simply can't resist a sweet treat.
ReplyDeleteI love those vintage sunnies!
Candy has some serious style! Loved everything!!

Oh I adore Candy's ensemble! These colors are darling and are perfect for the summer months. Great job! I look forward to meeting the next Fashionista. =)
ReplyDeleteI find the white purse absolutely lovable! And I do like also the floral bracelet...all your picks are so pretty. It is nice to share your taste for past...
ReplyDeleteVintage sun protection is a big deal for me! I have very fair skin and dont want anymore wrinkles then necessary, since turning 35 wrinkles are a bigger concern for me. Ive always been very careful about the sun though and most people think Im younger then I am. I credit the sun screen and of course a vintage parasol!

Not only do I now desperately need an ice-cream, but I'm also daydreaming of turquoise Zampagni wedges!
ReplyDeleteYou have done a good job at making CANDY.
The glasses are amazing. Cat eyes - they wouldn't suit my face shape, but I still rather like looking at that. I'm not sure is it the same all over the globe, but right here, there's a Cat-eye madness! Everyone seem to be into that.. from flee-markets to supermarkets, they are everywhere.. and just last year it was impossible to find any!
Anyways - congrats on another great post.
Missed out again! Those glasses are fab and they're gone already! Love the clamper bracelet too, one of the prettiest I've seen. Some really pretty summer goodies you've featured:)
ReplyDeleteAll cute summery items! I love the glamourflage range :) and that set with the midriff top is so cute
ReplyDeleteThe blue tones in this post remind me of blue icy poles turning my lips blue. This really is a sweet look! That bracelet is absolutely stunning, like a small work of wearable art. I imagine Candy would sit in the shade and sip a cool iced tea in this ensemble :)
ReplyDeleteDarling, the bracelet and the shoes...love love love.
ReplyDeleteI love this post- especially the confetti glasses and the rose encrusted clamper bracelet. The bracelet reminds me of ice buckets that are made of ice with flowers and herbs embedded in them...I saw them in an entertaining magazine!Great post- as always
