Hark, what is this? A sunny day, can it really be? If you too have been feeling as of late like you’re about one Home Depot lumberyard trip away from buying all the requisite materials for an arc, you’re not alone. We’ve seen such an unseasonably large amount of rain over the past two and a half months that I’m starting to wonder if summer proper is going to show up at all this year.
Though those sublimely sky high temperatures that the Okanagan is famous for have, by an large, continued to elude us so far, we have had a few days that were either warm and/or sunny weather, one of which was the afternoon when Tony snapped these shots of me in our yard just before we headed out to run some errands and enjoy one of our lovely little drives around town (for the sake of sightseeing and because we both find driving to be relaxing).
As I got dressed that morning I felt like I was an in an adventurous mood. I could see a breeze rustling strongly through the trees outside, and as the sun finally beat down on the soggy grass, I felt like I could have packed a truck and embarked on a trip to some distant (and presumably much drier) land – say perhaps, the Sahara desert or the Andes Mountains of South America.
I knew I wanted to wear a scarf, but (for a bit of a change as of late) not on my head, rather draped across my shoulders. To match the spirit of the sun, I opted for numerous pops of colour in this outfit, from the turquoisey-blue shirtwaist dress (which, I just love, makes me look a tad taller than I really am for some reason – hurrah!) to the snow white pumps and belt.
At first I put an orange belt with this outfit, but the longer I stared at it in the mirror, the less I liked it with the scarf, so off it went, replaced by this skinny white number (I do definitely foresee wearing the orange belt/blue shirtwaist dress combo one day though, as I really liked how fun they looked together).
Once the look had come together as a whole, I suddenly felt like I was channelling Katharine Hepburn a little. Not any one role specifically, but just elements of her looks over the years, such as the high collar on the dress, the subtly practical appearance of the whole outfit, and the scarf knotted over one shoulder.
And the more I thought of the marvelous Ms. Hepburn, the more that feeling of wanderlust burned in my soul. While no jaunts half way across the globe materialized, we had a splendid day bopping around town, running errands, venturing down uncharted (ok, technically just un-visited by us yet) streets, and lapping up the beautiful weather with the same enthusiasm as a kitty going at a bowl of milk.
We might not have a thousand and one stamps in our passport, but by golly, we’re getting to know Penticton and the surrounding Okanagan towns and communities pretty darn well, which I’m pleased as punch about. After all, there’s much to be said for being urban explorers in one’s own backyard – especially when you happen to be blessed with the first sunny summer day in ages!
Woah! How stunning do you look? And what a stunning colour frock. You've also made me think that there is a colour I have yet to get a pair of gloves in!xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Ivy! I also love finding colours of gloves that I don't have yet (at the moment I'm looking to expand the green section of my glove rainbow).

Yes, I think the white belt definitely compliments the scarf, and I like the way there is yellow in it too, which goes with the gloves. It is a very lovely dress, but I think the scarf gives it that something extra. Yet another winning outfit. You never get it wrong!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visits to my blog, I do appreciate you stopping by.
Yes, I think we definitely need to trade my drought for the overabundance of rain and cool temps...so send it priority mail and I'll do the same. :-P
ReplyDeleteI love blue and green and then I love blue and orange. I don't know why I don't wear more of them. :-/
Boxing up as much of yesterday's massive (and I do mean massive!) downpour as I possibly can for you right now! :)
DeleteI totally understand what you mean. There are certain colour combos that I really fancy too, and yet seem to completely forget about while I'm actually standing in my closet. It's good when something jogs your memory of them though, as in (theory) then you'll be more likely to try them out in the near future.

Youre outfit was darling and my oh my you really have stunning eyes!!! xox
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! And everything goes so beautifully with your hair color... Which is BTW, the color I have been trying to get my red to forever. I just need mine a touch redder to be perfectly happy. :) send some rain our way. :) we've been in a drought for ages.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, my dear! It took a good long while for me to finally find a red seemed "just right" (especially from at home hair colouring), but ever since a did about 1.5 years ago now, I've stuck it like white on rice! :)
DeleteHere's the link to a post I did about my hair colour earlier this year: http://www.chronicallyvintage.com/2012/04/you-asked-what-shade-i-use-to-get-my.html (if you try this red out, be sure to let me know if you end up loving it as much as I do).

I love the colours of the scarf with this dress. It really compliments your hair colour too :)

ReplyDeleteHow the Lime and the Yellow match with this deep light blue!
ReplyDeleteIs this the dress that you've commented about (that you had a similiar one)?
Loving you more and more!
Hi Charlotte, thank you very much for both of your wonderfully nice comments today. Yes indeed, this is the dress that I mentioned - very good memory, dear gal!

Beautiful look !
ReplyDeleteSometimes all that you need to see is right in your own neighborhood. There is always an adventure waiting <3
ReplyDelete{you look adorable!}
I love Katherine Hepburn! She is one of my favourite old-time actresses. :D
ReplyDeleteYou look darling!! I adore the colours (from your hair to your dress, to you scarf and gloves...)!
I wish we could have some of that rain here. We are in a drought in Ontario right now and have had a forest fire near Ottawa! :O It's funny how we can have completely opposite weather conditions just a few provinces away.
Oh no, I'm sorry to hear about. The part of B.C. where I live now (the Okanagan) is notoriously famous for its forest fires, and I know firsthand how devastating they can be (not to mention what the thick, powerfully strong smoke smells like). Fingers crossed that this pesky rain will hop over to Ontario really soon!

Such a lovely outfit! The scarf is beautiful! I've been on the hunt for some good vintage scarves but there's not too many places to find them in my area. I may have to resort to the internet. ;)

Thank you very much, Christina! Though I have found some vintage and vintage appropriate scarves locally, as with most of my wardrobe, I source them online, where the selection is drastically bigger and better.

Thank you for your answere!
ReplyDeleteYou'r glasses are cute as well. I hope i will found some that i like soon as well.
Have a nice day! :)
You're very welcome, my dear. I hope you can find some great frames soon. Vintage is an option for sure, though you'll have to make sure the measurements are spot on before ordering, or else there's a good chance they'll be to big (or small) for you (especially in the nose bridge area).

Oh, I adore the pops of saturated colors! At first I was hopeful that the gloves were chartreuse, but I see that they're really yellow after all.
ReplyDeleteI saw further up that you wanted to expand your glove rainbow... what shade of green are you missing, and about what size gloves? I saw the most spectacularly emerald pair at the antiques mall down the road that were a smidge too small for me, I wonder if they are still there.
Hi Frances dear, thank you very much for your lovely comment. Off the top of my head, I think I have three green pairs: mint-ish, olive, and emerald. I'd like to find a dark pine pair, perhaps some light or grass green ones, too - always hope to colour that I don't have and which my wallet is happy with :)

Blue looks so beautiful on you! x
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are so beautiful and clear. Would you mind sharing what kind of camera you use?

Hi Joanna, that's so sweet of you to say, thank you! Most of the photos that are taken by my husband (Tony) of me are done using his Canon EOS 30D. He snaps, I edit/post process, and voila, the team effort is what you see :)
