Late June, ahhh, how I absolutely adore this time of the year. In my mind, I'm whipped back to the atmosphere that permeated this part of the month as a youngster, when school was just on the cusp of wrapping up, the local lakes were starting to become warm enough to swim in again, and "birthday season" (a sixteen day stretch between June 24th and July 10th when both mine and my little brother's birthday's fall) was in high gear.

These days are bathed in sunshine so gorgeous it deserves to be called opulent, the start of sauna warm nights full of diamond laced skies, lemonade by the gallon full, Motown music (my parents always played it during the summer when I was child and I've carried on the tradition ever since), gauzy sundresses, and the kind of languid early summer afternoons you wish with all your might could last until the very last moment of time.

More often than not, it is the tail end of June and the start of July that stand as my favourite days of summer, and I suspect this year will be just the same. Each moment of this season has its own special brand of sizzling magic, but there's just something about the brand new days of summer that make me love it with an unending passion.

I'm eager for summer - the start, middle and end one and all - and the sun drenched memories that I know lay ahead. Picnics aplenty, fantastically juicy peaches, golden sands so warm they rival burning coals, Canada Day fireworks, and as many yard sales as I can possibly get to.

This is a season of abundance and pleasure, which holds timeless favourites and oodles of new discoveries in its folds, and that promises to delight, entertain and instill joy in one's soul from the very first to the very last moment.

  6. I wonder if you got the gorgeous necklace with the car? Then dad bought the Cadillac and drove home and gave mum the necklace. Neat trick. I love your Flickr posts, and this was no exception. :)

  7. Wow, the colours in that Rowntree's advert are so bright and summery. Loving the polka dot dress and matching headband. Whilst I would be very pleased to have a Cadillac, I really really want that diamond and emerald necklace. Emeralds are my favourite stone.

  9. I enjoy looking at vintage ads, I have a Life magazine from the 60's that's pure delight to look at!
My favorite from your picks was French's bird seeds.

  10. I like the Rowntree's and the bathing beauties picture best. But the others are nice too. The basket of strawberries reminds me of mine from last week.

  15. Thank you dear for your lovely comment on my étagère. To build up this unsteady object was really only for fun and to play around and dream. But if you lived nearby I would make it for you to spoil you with tea and mini cakes and fruit and I think we would have fun and a lot to talk about.

  16. Ahhh these images sparkle fun and uncomplications...don't they? Almost fairy tale like. I love the vivid colors in the first image with the young girl so excited to try some Rowntree's Fruit Gums. You can't get these here in the states but I remember many-a-time having them impaled into my teeth in the UK and lovin' every minute of it:)

    1. They most certainly do! I can't recall ever seeing Rowntree's products up here in Canada either, but I had the good pleasure of becoming acquainted with the brand back when I lived in Ireland. It would be so lovely if they hopped the pond and started appearing in North American shops, too.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend, my dear friend!

  17. I love the one of the dog, so sweet! And the rose is beautiful too. I always like macro photography... whenever I get out my camera I find myself stooping down to get the closeups of raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens...

  18. I love summer. It's much more intense here in Virginia, than it is back home in England. Such as it is HOT and HUMID and you can actually wear tank tops and not feel cold ;)
Maybe you'll be able to do your picnic soon ;)

  19. This June so far, has been a lot better than last year. We aren't the second driest state in the US. Woot! And we've been getting loads of rain {actually we're having a nice t-storm as I write}. :D Both my parents b-days are in July as well, good month to be born in, I guess.

    1. How special that both of your parents were born in the same month. Tony and are both summer babies (his b-day falls just 26 days after mine, on August 6th), which I love, as it gives us yet another point in common.

I'm wholeheartedly happy to hear that this June has been better than the last for you, sweet Sean, and hope dearly that the same continues to be true for the rest of the year, too.

  21. I'm in love with this post, Jessica! As always, it's hard to choose a favorite photo. I think if I HAVE to choose, (of course i know i don't, ) lol, i'd have to say i love the puppy pic and the 'yellow ribbon' photo! Vintage is always so much fun. But you know that, of course. :)
