Meet Annie, our adorable new puppy

This past Monday, our lives changed in an incredibly precious and wonderful way. Two days shy of the ninth anniversary of the day that we meet (March 20th), Tony and I welcomed a puppy into our family for the very first time.

We are both massive dog lovers and have dreamed of getting a puppy throughout our whole relationship. This week, in celebration of nine years together, we did just that.

Hailing from Delta (a part of the Metro Vancouver area down on the Lower Mainland), our darling new girl is named Annie - her name celebrating the fact that she's our anniversary gift to one another this year.

I cannot begin to put into words that joy that we're both feeling right now. It's incredible to have to new, darling bundle of puppy joy in the house (we found the listing for, and bought, her on the same day - Monday - so hence why I didn't post about this exciting chapter in our lives prior to the fact).

Our sweet girl (seen above in an iPhone photo I took yesterday afternoon) is an almost nine week old American Bullador (a cross between an American Bulldog and a Labrador Retriever).

More than just a "gift" in the sense of something that one gives or receives, Annie is a beautiful blessing who will no doubt enrich our lives in countless ways. I love her to pieces and then some! It's hard not to have a few tears of happiness tumble out of my eyes each time I look at her for more than the quickest of moments.

Sweet, very well tempered, curious, playful, alert, intelligent, and healthy, she is so tremendously amazing that I still feel like I have to pinch myself to believe that she's real.

She is though, and as new puppies take a lot of time and energy, I've not been online since Monday (save for a few minutes yesterday - chiefly to write this post) and suspect that my presence will be pretty scare for the next little while.

I want to take a moment to thank you all very much for your blog comments this week - including on Monday's Ice Phone giveaway (which I just want to note, is not only for iPhone users - the Ice Phone is compatible with nearly all modern cell phones).

As many of you know, I always try my best to visit and comment on the blogs of those who super sweetly do the same for me, but I may be a touch behind on that front for the next little while these highly formative early puppyhood days are underway. Likewise blog posts here may appear a tiny bit less often just (I'd imagine) for the next few days.

It's fantastic to be able to share about Annie with all of you this morning - I've been so eager to do so since the moment we decided we were going to get her - and likewise to know that she'll be a part of this blog - as the newest Cangiano family member - from her on out (be sure to follow me on Instagram for the latest snaps of this super cute little girl).

Sending happy start of spring wishes - and countless new puppy kisses (and, goodness, is she a kisser!) to each and every one of you!

  1. Oh, what an exciting time! I love the name you chose and the reasons for it, and Annie looks like an absolutely adorable pup! There's something really wonderful and lovely about meeting, falling in love with and raising an animal. I'm so happy for you and Tony, and for Annie too. Happy (belated!) Anniversary!

  5. Congratulations! She is so sweet! Our "puppy" is 3 yrs. old now, but I remember those wonderful first months so well. There will be frustrating times while you are training her, just remember you'll get through them, and actually laugh about them later. The rewards are so incredibly worth it, dog's love unconditionally. So happy for you!

    PS/We lost a few socks & a couple shoes.

  7. Aww Annie is such a cutie Jessica. We have two jack russells which are the first dogs I've ever had, I didn't have a dog growing up, and I've been amazed by how loving and loyal they are, as well as infuriating and unruly at times, just like members of the family in fact. I can tell she's going to get tons of love and affection back from you. Looking forward to seeing her popping up in your future posts, she's gorgeous. xx

  8. Puppy advice from a fellow puppy momma: get the puppy microchipped ASAP. This is such peace of mind, because Annie can find her way home even if she loses her collar! Talk to your vet. http://public.homeagain.com/how-pet-microchipping-works.html

  9. Annie is absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!!!! Take lots and lots of pictures in these early days, because she will grow up incredibly fast!

I am so happy for you and Tony. A dog can add so much love to a couple's life, and will make you closer to one another in your shared love for her. :)

    Congratulations!

  11. AWWWW!! She's so cute! Congratulations on your new fur baby!! There is nothing like the joy (and sometimes not joy - the first shoe chewed for example) of a puppy. I'm so incredibly happy for you!

Enjoy these first few weeks! Take a *million* photos and videos! Nick and I look at pictures of Dave as a puppy often.
Also, if you have the time and inclination, puppy classes are super fun and informative! It's great to watch your little one play with other pups and the trainers can help you with any questions you may have.

    Enjoy! And congratulations! :)

    Lisa.

  31. Oh Jessica, what a wonderful cute little puppy is this. I can imagine how happy you must be with this sweet little girl. Our dogs came to us when they were 2 and 7 years and it was so very exciting when we got them. But it must be so funny and more exciting to get a dog when it's still a baby. Have lots of fun and happy days with this cutie. I'm looking forward to more photos of this little puppy.

There is nothing like the arrival of a small one into a house...be it canine, feline or human. This joy is magnified so much when it is your first and much longed for addition- I'm so happy for you both.

  51. Oh how adorable! we just watched 'Marley and me: the puppy years' yesterday. so much doggy cuteness. Your puppy seems to not be shy either. Our dog hates the camera and will only play dead for the camera unless you can distract her with something else.

  61. Oh my gosh Jessica! She is so precious! The patch of black on her little pink snoot is adorable! She will make a wonderful companion for you. Having a pet really does wonders on those days when you aren't feeling your best. My Sarah was with me for 13 years before I lost her to cancer in 2010 and my heart has ached every day since. She was the cutest Dalmatian with a personality as vivid as her spots! Please post lots of pictures of little Annie and congrats to you and Tony!
