In many respects, the title of this post assumes that you read last week's post here, in which I discussed the fact that, due to many years of ongoing hair loss, I've recently started wearing a wig for the first time in my life. If you didn't get a chance to check out that post, you may want to do so quickly, and then scurry back here, as it really goes into far greater detail on the subject that I'll be delving into in today's post.

The photos here were the first that we took of me in this wig after I received it, and stand as my favourite prior to when I trimmed the bangs. As mentioned in my recent intro-to-the-wig post, after three shoots, the last of which the length of the bags bugged me the most, I trimmed them a bit and am so, so glad that I did!

There wasn't anything overly wrong with them as they were, but I don't have a very large face over all compared to many other adult women, so the bangs sat pretty low down on my forehead before I cut them, nearly obscuring my eyebrows. If I was going for a Zooey Deschanel/Katy Perry/Olivia Wilde/Taylor Swift kind of look, this would have been perfect, but I'm not. As much a pre-styled wig will permit, I'm trying to keep my hair looking as vintage appropriate as I can, so I'd much rather my bangs channelled someone like, say, Bettie Page, and that's who I kept squarely in mind as I (super carefully - wig hair, after all, doesn't grow back if you cut too much off!) trimmed my wig bangs a few days ago.

Autumn lingered on, rather delightfully, well into November here in Penticton. Even after the leaves had lost their golden luster and the hours of daylight dwindled, the temperatures were kind enough to remain above freezing. In early December though, as is so often the case, all that changed and winter really and properly showed up, brining scads of snow in tow with it as it did.

Naturally, as many of us who regularly take outfit photos know, snow can make grabbing snaps outdoors a bit tricky sometimes, but unless you're dealing with gale force winds and/or blinding snow, it doesn't have to be a deal breaker entirely. On the damp afternoon when Tony and I popped down to a stretch of land beside the marina at Okanagan Lake to take these photos, both the wind and the snow were howling, but amidst the flakes, we were able to get in quite a few photos (albeit quick ones!), many of which we were really happy with once they were uploaded.

Turtlenecks are an interesting garment to me. I've always enjoyed wearing them, appreciate their warmth, and doubt I've ever gone a whole winter without sporting one, but I'm also the first to admit, that they aren't always the most flattering item of clothing on many people. They tend to swallow up your neck, give you the an additional chin or two, and can also snag on longer length earrings. Nevertheless, they're a winter wardrobe must for most folks, myself included, so I figured it was high time I busted out my trusty black one and sported a turtleneck on camera.

I suppose I'm resisting winter's chill in a way, because, so far, I've been dressing a touch more like it was still October then December or (now) January. I love winter, I truly do, but as I discussed in this post last fall, my warm weather clothes far outnumber my cold weather ones at the moment, so I've not got as many snow appropriate garments to turn to as I do ones to, for example, wear to a picnic in June.

To partner with this black turtleneck, I opted for notes of silver, grey, and red. I've always loved this colour combo, and find I reach for it most often during the coldest months of the year. Long after the last Christmas decoration comes down, there's just something about red that makes it seem so very well suited to winter, if you ask me. Perhaps it calls to mind thoughts of flames dancing in a fireplace on a bitterly cold eve, or of rose hips poking out of the snow in the garden, and of course, there's always the abundance of crimson that Valentine's Day entails come February. Whatever the case, I love love to enliven winter's palette with red, and opted to do so with this outfit in the form of the purse, one of the bangles, and as an accent colour on my vintage hat (on top of my usual vibrant red lipstick, that is).

Though, admittedly, it can be a wee bit bone-chilling indeed, I actually love shooting outfit photos in the snow. The cool palette of icy whites, greys, bleached browns, and delicate, almost melancholic blues can make for a fantastic backdrop against which to highlight the true colours of your ensemble. They can also be very flattering to one's skin tone. If you've been on the fence about taking outfit photos in the snow, I highly recommend it to one and all - just make sure you wear sturdy footwear with good tread/grip on the soles, as you don't want to risk injuring yourself in the name of fashion by slipping on the ice or snow.

I was thoroughly impressed with how well this wig stayed put that day (just as it's continued to do each time I've worn it since). We got hit with a few mighty big blasts of powerful wind, and it really didn't budge an inch (I should note, I'm not wearing any wig glue or tape underneath, the wig is merely resting on my scalp). That hat wasn't holding it down either, if you were thinking as much, it was just gingerly resting on top, and would have been far more likely to have blown off than than the wig itself, I think (luckily neither happened).

Suddenly wearing a wig fulltime is a change for sure, but not an unpleasant one at all, and - especially once I trimmed the bags - I'm continuing to be very happy with this cute, inexpensive topper. I sincerely appreciate all of the thoughtful, caring, supportive comments that I received on my post about the wig last week, they really meant a lot to me as I adjust to life sans natural hair.

This is a fun, exciting journey and development to my personal style, and one which I'm eager to share with all of you throughout the brand new year that lies ahead of us - and beyond.

  4. <3 lovely look!

I just read your post about wearing a wig and losing hair, and I am admiring you so much! I have a problem too, I am losing my hair all the time and it is getting thinner and thinner, but it's because I stress all the time and I don't eat properly. Your wig looks so natural on you, you look so lovely !:) Lots of hugs!

    1. Hi sweet Sara, thank you very much. I'm so sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with thinning hair, too. I'm convinced that stress played a role from day one in my hair loss, too, but I don't think it was the sole factor (as even during periods of relatively little stress, it continued to fall out at the same rate).

If you ever need anyone to talk to about hair loss, to vent about something that's stressing you, or anything else, please know that I'm hear for you.

  7. Oh, I just love it! You look so beautiful and at peace. The color is perfect for your skin and the bangs frame your lovely face.

I also love the colors of your outfit and that you chose to photograph it against the snowy backdrop with snowfall actually visible in many of the pics.

Just stunning! I cant wait to see more!

  10. Wig looks great! Can I ask...do you wear it all the time at home as well. If not do you wear anything (scarves, bandanna, etc) while at home?
I ask because I'm thinking of going this route soon and just curious about what other wig wearers do when they're not out and about!

    1. Hi Christi, thank you very much for your wonderfully nice compliment, as well as your great question (it's so fun to be asked my first wig related queries this week).

As it's just my husband and I (and the cat :) ) at home, I don't wear my wig 24/7. Just depending on how I'm feeling, if I'm not planning to go out, I'd say I wear my wig about 40% of the time at home. Then I'd say that about 40% of the time I let my shaved head breath sans anything on it, and 20% of the time I've been wearing hats (beanie toques and crochet hats for the most part), especially now that we're in the thick of winter. I'm really comfortable with my bare head and my hubby doesn't mind at all either, which is great because I don't feel any kind of pressure to cover my head unless I want to.

If you go the wig route, too, please let me know. It would be wonderful to swap tips, sites, stories, etc about wearing a wig on a daily basis.

    2. Hi christie!
I wear wigs too, have been for 4 yrs now due to alopecia areata. Through my local foundation I have heaps of friends who wear wigs too. Most of us just wear beanies, scalfs of go AU natural if we're at home. In summer sweating under your wig can make your head itchy so giving time to air is a great idea. Also never sleep in them- that's the quickest way to ruin a wig. Basically if you are comfortable without it at home, it's better to wear alternatives as it will prolong the life of your wig. I love wearing wigs- makes getting ready on the morning so quick and I have fabulous hair at all times! :)

    3. Thank you for the reply!
That's fantastic that you feel good about going wig-less.
I was just curious if it felt weird going from long hair to basically no hair (without wig).
Not that I have long hair at the moment but shaved is definitely a step away from having some hair.
I'll definitely chime in if I find a nice wig and go that route.

Thank you for sharing all this with us, its a huge help for those who may be thinking about going the same way. :)

    4. You're very welcome, Christi. I think that if I'd had a lush head of a great hair and suddenly lost/shaved it for whatever reason, it might have been a whole lot tougher to adjust to, but having watched my hair dwindle year after year, it truly hasn't been that hard to part with the last of it. I suspect each of us would feel differently in this situation and I'm sure it would be hard to adjust to being "hairless" for sure for some people.

Thank you very much for your comment, Mel. I completely agree with about going au natural to prolong the life of your wig. I've been really mindful of that with "Pin Up", as it's such an inexpensive synthetic wig and I really want to help ensure it lasts as long as possible.

I appreciate your comments so much, ladies, thank you both again!

    1. Thank you very much, dear Hollie. I did a lot of figure skating as a wee little girl (chiefly ages 6 to 8 in terms of lessons, and then just skating for fun after that), and my mom would almost always dress me in a turtleneck for my skating lessons. It was there that I feel in love with the combination of them and a swing skirt, and why I still partner them to this day.

I got the turtleneck here at a local Salvation Army shop for just a few dollars (I'm thinking maybe $4.00), and suggest grabbing one from someplace similar if you're just easing into wearing turtlenecks (that way if you don't like it, you aren't out much cash).

      Thank you again, my dear!

  12. Lovely outfit and if you hadn't told us you were wearing a wig I would have never been able to tell. The colors looks really good on you too. I've always had to trim bangs on most of my wigs. I drives me nuts that the bangs would end right at my eyelash line. It would make my eyes really itchy and get in the way. I'm glad you like your new wig. It'll make you feel more confident each time you wear it.

    1. Mariela, my dear, I didn't know that you had experience with wearing wigs, that's really interesting. Have you striven to find ones that were vintage looking or made modern ones seem more vintage? At the risk of sounding noisy (you don't have to answer of course), do you were wigs by choice/for fun or out of necessity? I'm just curious because there aren't too many of us vintage loving gals who wear wigs and I'd love to get your perspective on things from just such a standpoint.

      Many sweet thanks,

    2. I used to Cosplay a lot when I was younger. So a lot of my wigs were very colorful and on the cheap side. I was into Lolita for a while too so I bought some very full wigs to complete the look. I used to wear them for fun too but they always made me really itchy. Luckily, I haven't *needed* to wear a wig. There are a lot of options out there, it just takes time to find them. I know that there are also some wigs that are made of plastic fibers that can also be styled to how you want them. I can't remember what the name of them are. It starts with a K. I had one or rather might still have one. I never used it and it cost me a pretty penny. Would you be interested in it? I'd gladly give it to someone who would appreciate it instead of just collecting dust. I think it's a medium to dark brown hair color. Can't remember.

    3. Hi Mariela, how cool that you were into Cosplay. That's something that's always appealed to me, but I've not ventured into exploring it much. I completely agree that it takes time to find good wigs. I truly feel like I'm going through a major learning process these days and suspect it will take years, and multiple wigs, before I feel like I can really judge the good from the, how shall we say, not so good ;)

The first wig that I bought (which, sadly, didn't work for me) was heat-resistant, which is a big part of why I opted for it in the first place. It was from the Raquel Welsh line and could be heated (with a curling iron, blow dryer, etc) to something like 330F. As it didn't pan out for me though, I never tried styling it with heating tools.

I'm incredibly touched by your offer. Thank you! Yes, certainly, if you have a wig that you don't plan on wearing again, I'd be happy to have it. It will be a while, I suspect, before I can save up enough for a good quality real hair wig, and in the meantime, it never hurts to have multiple synthetic options to work with. I sincerely appreciate you offer so much, thank you again! (Please email me anytime to chat more about this.)

    1. Thank you very much, my dear! You know, you just hit on something I hadn't even noticed, but now realize is spot on completely. I did feel more confident that day, and have other times when we've subsequently taken photos, due to the wig. I think I'd grown used to trying to hid the thinning in photos so much that it was zapping a bit of my self-confidence without me even realizing it at the time. I sincerely appreciate that you made that point and helped me to see that interesting element of this new wig wearing chapter of my life.

We have scads and scads of snow, which I'd gladly ship to you by the tanker-ful, if such a thing were possible.

    1. Thank you so much! Eeeeck! I think I would have had a quick little chuckle, snatched the wig up - snow and all - and quickly put it back on. Mind you, there was no one else anywhere near where we were that day, so it probably wouldn't have been a big deal if it had blown off. I would have just been worried about it getting thrown by the wind into the lake. Knowing me though, I'd probably have been crazy enough to jump in and get, especially since it has just arrived a couple of days before after waiting about three weeks to have hair again.

I love the idea of a bobbed wig, too. I haven't had short(ish) hair since I was in my early teens, and it would be really fun to play around with above-the-shoulders lengths.

This whole process has been a both a learning experience and a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to continuing to experiment this year, and I guess come to think of it, for the rest of time now, with various wigs.

Thank you again very, very much, my dear friend,

    1. Thank you very much, it's so wonderfully nice to hear people say that it looks like it could be my real hair. That was an important factor for me as I was shopping for a "starter wig".

Honestly, though there have some bumps in the road (as in when the first wig I bought didn't end up working on me one iota), this really hasn't been an overly hard or stressful process (the trickiest part has just been trying to find a wig that works for my vintage look).

I think that because I'd been dealing with ongoing hair loss for half my life (it started when I was 14 and I'm now 28) and I'd made peace quite a while ago with the fact that I'd most likely end up becoming a wig wearer at some point, it was actually more of a relief than anything to shave my head, embrace wearing a wig, and make the best out of this interesting curve ball that the universe decided to throw me (starting all those years ago). Is it ideal? Goodness know, but there are countless worst things to have to deal with, and I'm grateful that this is something that I can combat with a cute wig and a positive outlook.

Tony just loves this wig. From day one he's said it looks really natural, too. He's truly been so caring and sweet throughout this whole transition, and it helps, I think, that he started going bald early in life, too, so he can relate to my hair loss. He doesn't mind one way or the other if I wear my wig at home, and tells me I'm cute/beautiful without it on, which is so heartwarmingly sweet and has really helped me get accustomed to not having any natural hair on my head anymore.

      Thank you again so much,

  36. It's a lovely colour and it looks fab. I am not a lover of turtlenecks, or any high neck, being of the short necked variety, so I am jealous as it would be lovely to wear such a thing to keep warm! We have only had snow once in the UK and it stayed on the ground for just a few hours - well, at least that is what happened in Kent where I live. It is a great photo opportunity though, sadly the only suitable footwear I have are trekking boots which aren't the least bit vintage!

  40. Your wig is SO adorable and does not look "wig-like" at all!

After reading about your experiences, I want a wig! I have the opposite problem where my hair is too thick and coarse to hold a curl, plus there is an impossibly stubborn cowlick in the front that can't be tamed by any amount of flat-ironing or hairspray. The only way that I'll ever have curls or bangs is to fake them!

    1. Thank you very much, Kim! One certainly doesn't have to experience hair loss to rock a wig! In recent months I've watched tons of videos of ladies with hair who enjoy wearing wigs showcasing and reviewing their wigs on Youtube. If you're feeling pulled towards trying a wig, I say go go for it! Get something fairly inexpensive, that way if you find a wig just isn't your cup of tea, you're not out a huge chunk of change. Have fun and be sure to let me know if you do venture down the wig path! :)

  44. Oh Jessica! The colors in these photos are truly stunning. My husband (a hairdresser) and I sat on the couch earlier in the week and read your last post...mouths hanging open in awe and love as you recounted shaving your head with sweet Tony. Joe says that this is the number one problem that women come to him with - thinning hair. "Please make it look thicker!" they ask, or "can you hide it?". Our respect and good energy flows your way to the great north! And...this wig is stunning. The color suits you deliciously, and your confidence radiates!! xoxo, erica

  48. Darling Jessica, Love your new look, but loved your old look as well! I can identify re the thinning hair. Mine has always been fine but through different drug therapies, and time, it's gotten much thinner and the hairline recedes much the same as yours does. I did try wigs...wow how wonderful it is to have lots of hair!...got lots of compliments...had one partner who insisted I wear particular wig every time we went out (but that's a whole nother story!)...and when I was working in airconditioning all day it went well, but these days, well Australia's just too hot making wigs uncomfortable. At the moment I'm toying with getting some extensions and then wearing it up...will let you know how it goes...
Big love to you in this wonderful new year!

  59. How absolutely gorgeous! I love your whole ensemble, and that wig is really remarkable. It looks very much like your hair before you made the switch, except, of course, there is much more of it! I'm waiting eagerly to see it with shorter bangs, the length in these pictures does look a touch on the long side, and seems to be competing a bit with your lovely eyebrows.

I'm a bit jealous of your gorgeously snowy photos... we're lucky if it gets below freezing in the winter months here, so the snow can seem very romantic and lovely from a distance.

  60. Oh my word Jessica, you look incredible! That colour and style just makes you look amazing. I am so glad you found a very wearable, very natural (because let's admit, a lot of wigs can just look horrid!) wig that works for you. I myself have bought two wigs recently, one with very long black curly hair and lots of bright true red chunks, as well as a multidimensional blonde that is just past shoulder length in case I need to hide my bright pink bangs and look "normal" (bleck!) for things such as job interviews and the like. You should check out eBay for wigs, that's where I got mine for dirt cheap, and they look very natural and luxurious!

And those photos you took in the snow - just stunning! Just had to add that one last thing heheh :-)

    1. Hi sweet Holly, thank you very much! I completely agree, not all wigs look natural at all, and if you're aiming for natural, that can be a downside to wigs for sure. I like a wig to look either very natural or so impossibly unnatural that no one would ever think it was your real hair. To start out, and for most of the time, I want to aim for natural, so I'm really touched to know that you think this one looks believable and natural.

I've been eyeing wigs on eBay for a few months now. There are some great deals there for sure, but many of them want $25-$50 to ship to Canada, so on, say a $35 wig, that can add up quickly. Not all sellers charge such high shipping, it just seems that those with wigs I like that moment mostly are. Not, really, that that is terribly cheaper for shipping than what most dedicated US wig sites charge.

It's so cool that you have some wigs, too. I'd love to see snaps of you in them anytime (both sound beautiful).

Thank you again so much for all of your wonderful support and sweetness, dear gal!

  61. If you hadn't told us you were wearing a wig, we would never have known. The color is perfect and style suits you exactly. Your eyebrows are hidden which I am glad you rectified by trimming. A definite thumbs up dear Jessica! How is it to wear, is it irritating or slightly itchy?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thank you very much, sweet dear! I'm not finding this particular wig to be itchy or irritating. Initially I tried wearing it with a wig cap (I tried two kinds) and they both gave me headaches really quickly. As my head is shaved now, I don't really need a cap, so I've been forgoing it and have found the wig really comfortable. I've worn it for as long as 14 hours at a time now and haven't gotten a headache or felt uncomfortable yet, which is awesome, as the first wig I tried (despite being about six times the price) was fairly uncomfortable. I wonder if a sense of itchiness will arise in the warm weather when we all sweat more. It will be interesting to see.

Your outfit and the photos were a serious project. We readily see how much care and polish you put into them. Very impressive and attractive. You clean up nice!

With reference to your concluding remarks, I also found the experience of actually wearing a wig to be easier than I'd feared. I never worry about it falling off; the elastic in mine keeps it secure and, after a while, you forget it's there. The goal, I believe, is to feel so natural about wearing it that we're no longer conscious of it. Good luck!

    1. Thank you very much, sweet dear! It's fun to have winter to use as a backdrop for the first time (for all intents, I just started taking vintage outfit snaps here at the end of last March, right as winter was wrapping up, so I didn't get any in before the snow vanished) and to try and stretch my little cold weather as far as I can (I have way more spring/summer/early fall clothes these) so that you guys don't end up seeing the same couple of garments all the time.

      Thank you again so much!!

  90. You look WONDERFUL! Just stunning -- the outfit -- the wig -- and your accessories are fab as always. Black really does become you! And the winter scene behind you is just beautiful. Tell Tony that this is one of my favorite photoshoots!

I always love to share kind comments directly at Tony that come his way here, and am sure your's will brighten his day immensely (we're having a big issue with our internet service here this week, it's not working at all and so I'm using the web from my iPhone out in the car right now).

      Tons of hugs & thanks,

  91. I absolutely love this outfit. I'm a big fan of little accents of red in outfits. The colour of the wig is gorgeous and really suits you and the curls look lovely. xxx

  92. Oh Jessica! IT LOOKS SOOOO GORGEOUS!! The hue is perfect for your complexion! If I didn't know, I would never think it wasn't your own hair. I can't believe you lucked out on your 2nd wig purchase - finding the right one can be a trying task. When my mom was battling breast cancer, she tried a ridiculous number before she found one that was *just right*. I love the length of the bangs (wise choice to trim them - very Betty Page), and the waves are very pin-curly-esque! Damn, girl.

You mentioned you would probably save up & end up with a higher-end one eventually, so I thought I'd share our feedback on the wig my mom bought. (I'm visiting her this weekend, so I shared this with her - she says hello & congrats on your new 'do!) While I would say she was enviably brave when it came to her treatment, she was not as confident & brash as you when it came to the hair aspect (her words). She ended up buying one made of real hair, from a shop that caters to ladies with health concerns in Portland, OR. We can both attest, although it was pricey, the quality was certainly worth it. There was no "gaps" along the cap, like a lot of wigs, so she could fashion it in many ways without giving away that it was a wig. And she could curl it & wash it like you would your own hair. And OMG it's so natural looking. It was basically magic. She still wears it sometimes when she's having a bad hair day haha;) But in the mean time - I'm oh-so-loving what you are rocking!!

Mega cheers to you, from my mom & me. Your gumption & grace is so refreshing, & I can't wait to see more of your new, glamorous hairstyle!!

    Best wishes & love,
    Sara & Lynne

    1. My very dear Sara & Lynne,

Thank you deeply for your immensely thoughtful - and helpful - comment. It is so, so informative to hear from those with firsthand wig experience, and I'm really happy that you shared about your mom's wig story with me. I would love a wig with a cap like you described. Do you happen to know what type of cap it is on that wig? Being able to style a real hair wig in a multitude of ways is probably the biggest reason why I'm hoping to eventually go the real hair route, so the more factors that can help make that possible, the absolute better.

Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
      ♥ Jessica

*PS* Our moms both share the same first name, though mine spells hers without the "e" at the end.

  93. You look beautiful, Jessica!! Absolutely stunning!

I am out of the loop with regard to your wig. My dog's illness has had me making trips to the vet's office quite regularly, so I haven't been online all that much in the last week.

Anyhow, I LOVE the color of your wig. And I love the hairstyle...not to mention your outfit. You are just all around beautiful!

    Love and hugs,

  95. You look fantastic - good choice on the color!

Having been involved in theatre for years, I have worn my share of wigs and I think they are a fabulous way to completely change your look, and can be a lot easier than styling hair each and every day.

A long wig made of human hair is incredibly expensive. I can remember wearing a couple that had human hair along the crown and in the front of the wig for styling ease, but the back was synthetic, which cut down on cost. Perhaps that is an option?

Have a blast playing with your new hair!

    1. Hi Laura, thank you so much for your lovely comment and suggestion. It truly is incredible how high good quality real hair wigs can go for. I think that for me, honestly, the most important thing (aside from a comfortable fit) is that the "investment" wig is get is able to be styled in an array of vintage hairstyles (with the option to safely use heating tools, if desired) without the wig cap showing through, so one that was part human hair/part synthetic was able to do that, I'd be all of over for sure. I'll be looking into this option for sure. Thank you so much much again for your great impute.

  97. Quite some news, I've been away, so I missed your previous post. I'll just say I hope you feel confident and beautiful always, that's what is important. The wig looks really beautiful and natural. I do love the outfit and the white backdrop (although I'm sure it's tricky confronting the elements for a snowy blog shoot). :D

  98. hi Jessica
usually in reading blogs, I often look at the pictures first, and then read the message.Really, I didn't realize you were wearing a wig! the colour is just perfect on you, and it looks very very natural. I wore a wig only one time for a dance show, and it was really strange to look at the mirror !they have a magical power I think, why don't use it :)Plus your outfit is really beautiful, I like it a lot, maybe because it's very simple and cute

    1. Thank you deeply, dear Lisa - your description of how I looked in this shots really warmed my heart. I do try and ensure I look healthy (which, I never actually am) in the outfit photos I post here, so if this wig (and/or wigs in general) can further that cause, I'm even more happy to be wearing it/one now. Thank you for sharing that, I'm so happy that you.

      Huge hugs,

  103. Love how the red of the wig complements your complexion....you look absolutely gorgeous my dear! Love that 40s hat too....the outfit is a fabulously chic one! You must have been frozen to the bone in all that snow...but the photos are beautiful so it was worth it.
I think the older I grow the more I realise that there is no perfect human being...I have had greying white hair since the age of 16 and have only started dying my hair twice a year only a few years back...but the funny thing is that I am allergic to black dye though I have black hair! The boys use to say I must be like Rogue from Xmen when I was a teenager...which saddened me then as I wanted to fit in like every other teenage girl. Joke aside, I am truly grateful that I have been blessed with hair and decided to donate 12 inches of my black and white confused hair to a charity called the Princess Trust who make wigs for children with cancer last year...hopefully they were able to pick out the white bits! And I would never have guessed you were wearing a wig had you not said in the post!

    1. Hello dear May, thank you very much for your comment and for sharing some of your own hair story with me. It sounds like you've truly taken greying so early in life in stride. I really commend you for that, honey. It's not that uncommon to be allergic to black hair dye (and hair dye in general). My husband's mother had a near death experience many years ago due to an allergic reaction to hair dye. Have you ever tried more natural dyes like the kinds sold at health food stores? I can't of course say if they'd bother you or not, but perhaps there's less of a risk there (just an idea).

How beautiful that you're donating 12" of hair to such a wonderful cause. You're so very thoughtful and caring.

  104. Dear Jessica,

I really like your outfit. I have to say that your wig looks wonderfully natural and lovely.

I deleted my blog "The Simple Life of Hope" but still have "Women Then", which I may post on occasionally.

After returning home from our trip to see my father-in-law, I came home to hear the news that my father has leukemia and was told that he has 2 weeks to 3 months to live.

I will visit you when I can.

    Much love,
    Hope

    1. My dear Hope, my heart breaks for you and your family. I can scarcely imagine what an incredibly tough blow it must have been to receive that news on the heels of FIL's recent passing. My thoughts are with you and your loved ones during this trying time. Please, please don't worry for the tiniest of seconds if you're able to visit here or not. I completely understand and want you to focus as much on your family as you need to in the coming weeks and months. I'm not planning on going anywhere, and will be here whenever you want to return to blogging.
