Are you Mad Men material?

That’s the question Banana Republic, in conjunction with AMC, is asking fans of this popular (and wildly stylish) show. If you feel like you were born to roam the halls of Sterling Cooper, you're invited to swing by your nearest Banana Republic location (between July 21st and August 11th) to pick up an application for your chance to score a “walk on” part on an episode of Man Men.

Along with your entry form, applicants need to submit a photo of themselves – but not just any ol’ snapshot, you need to show the good folks at AMC you very best Mad Man inspired outfit! Tell me, does it get any more thrilling for a fan of this awesome TV programme than to have a chance to show off your impeccable vintage fashion skills?

Whether your inner Mad Man (or woman!) channels the sultry vixen-esque look of Joan, the prim and proper mother next-door style of Betty, or the sweet but ever so slightly flirtatious look that Peggy sports, it’s time to dig into your closet for your best early 1960s pieces and get those camera lenses clicking!

The incredibly lucky winner of this (potentially once in a lifetime) contest will be handpicked by Man Men creator Matthew Weiner himself, and will receive, along with their immortal spot on television, a $1,000 Banana Republic gift certificate. (Please do note though that the contest is only open to residents of America and Canada.)

If you need some style pointers when it comes to nailing the Mad Men era look to a tee, I highly recommend checking out Super Kawaii Mama’s series of posts that cover this very topic. (Should you be looking for a gorgeous pen on a chain such as the one Joan is rarely seen without, be sure to check out the link to just such an item I mentioned in a post last May.)

What do you think, my wonderful readers, would you want to enter this contest? Do you think you have what it takes to land a role on the coolest show to ever pay homage to the sixties? While I don’t think I’ll be entering myself, I will certainly be following the results closely online and plan to post information on the winner once it becomes available.

To everyone who participates in this fantastic contest, I whole heartedly wish you the very best of luck! Have a blast dressing up in your favourite Mad Men look, and be sure to flash the sort of confident smile that might just land you the chance to rub elbows with the Drapers!

Either I've been living under a rock or this is a show that is not in the States? Sounds like fun though! Hope you are having a fabulous day!

  9. What a fun contest. However, one thing that bugs me is, whenever Mad Men is running, I get random strangers that see me in my vintage clothing and they say 'Oh, you are dressed like Mad Men'. Um, no, I dress like this all the time. Plus, I tend towards 1950's dresses, not 1960s. Whatever. (Goes to find best 1960's outfit and get picture taken)

  10. I won't be able to take part in the contest, but I'm excited that I'm going to be in the States in late August - perhaps I'll be able to snag one of the BR dresses!

  16. @ Amelia, I adore them too! The early sixties saw the last thread of the fifties style continue to hold on, after that the mod era rolled in and the (now) vintage look I so adore quickly fell to the wayside.

@ LandGirl, I'm really far behind, too! I don't even think I've seen all of season one yet! Lucky you, I love a chap who dresses in a suit for work, you should definitely encourage him to apply, it would be awesome if he won!

@ Dustjack attic, I agree, it's one of those rare shows that nails every important element to a perfect tee.

@ Karyn, it's only been around for a couple of years, so don't feel bad if you haven't heard about it. It's a US show and both the 1st and 2nd seasons are now out on DVD (season three is set to start this August). I bet you'd absolutely love it!

@ Andi, I think you would be a shoe in for the winner's circle, sweet heart! It is definitely too bad they limited to contest to the US and Canada.

@ Nora & Lola, hi sweet dears, I'm so happy to know you're on the side of the living again! I don't ever want my sweet blogging pals to feel under the weather.

@ Sher, :) absolutely! I think you'd look stunning in a Mad Men style outfit.

@ Maggi, I think so, too! I wonder how many applicants this contest will generate?

@ a cat of impossible colour, it's such a shame they didn't make it open to more countries! BR dresses are gorgeous, if you do snag one, I'd love to see pics of it :)

@ Keith, thank you! I think it's awesome, too! I think you should apply Keith, perhaps in Deano inspired suit :)

@ The Glamorous Housewife, ooohhh, I'm sorry to hear you had a problem with the comments. I didn't receive a notification of an earlier comment from you. I wonder what happened? Sometimes Blogger has a mind of its own! Thank you for your comment, sweetie, I'm really curious if anyone amongst us is going to apply, too.

@ Tracey, My pleasure, honey! Thank you for your comment; I think that sounds like the dream job!

@ Amanda, you've very welcome, sweetie, thank you for your comment. I also adore Mad Men!!!

@ Trishiekoh, so do I, the women are resplendently glamorous and the gentlemen are so handsomely dapper!

Thank you each very much for your wonderful comment! Happiest wishes for a great Tuesday to you all!

  17. @ Amy, I'm sorry that you're not able to enter, it definitely is too bad that this contest is limited to two countries. Often US contests are not open to Canadians, so I really understand what it feels like to be excluded from something you'd love to enter.

@ The Glamorous Housewife, I just got a notification of your previous comment this very moment (along with another lovely gal's comment too!), so evidently Blogger was being a tad buggy today.

What an interesting thing to be told by strangers, I haven't heard that one yet, but that may be because I think the show has more of a following in the US than it does up here in Canada. I have been asked (while sporting a vintage look) if I'm performing in a play/diner theater group, am an actress/model/singer, or if I'm going to/coming from a costume party. Interestingly I've found it's women, more than men, who ask such things. Perhaps they're secretly wishing they were sporting vintage styles too ;D

Sorry again about the comment issue, I've had comment notifications show up late (like days later) before once or twice, so I think I'll just start making a point of checking to see if there are any comments awaiting moderation on my Blogger dashboard, instead of relying on the email notifications.

Many thanks to you both, sweet ladies, for your comments. I wish you each a fantastic Wednesday!

  18. oh my!!! that is just about the best contest I have ever heard of!! although i have absolutely no acting experience, I may just enter for the hell of it as an excuse to get something "joan" inspired for my wardrobe! thank you so much for sharing the contest info. too much fun!

    ReplyDelete
  19. @ MissRedLips, I think you should definitely enter, sweetie! According to the announcement from AMC the role is for a "walk-on" part, which I'd imagine won't entail too much dialog.

Is Joan your favourite of the Mad Men ladies? In terms of style at least, she's mine :) I can't help but adore the alluring, subtly (or perhaps not so subtly ;D) temptress element of her wardrobe.

If you do enter, please let keep us informed of how things turn out!

    Big hugs!!!
    ♥ Jessica
