Please allow me to assure you that your blog is very easy to get round, read and find items on quickly and efficiently. One big secret is your use of html headings, ... they are always recognized by screen reading software and make moving smoothly from place to place on a page, (and knowing where you are as you do so) simple.

I have met Dragon and if you got around the web with it you have my absolute admiration, ... congratulations! I know it can be a very helpful programme, but it definitely has its challenges.

And thank you for always providing lovely descriptions and text to accompany your no doubt beautiful photographs. There is nothing quite so frustrating as having a piece focused on that is continually referred to but never described!

I am now and look forward to continuing to enjoy your fabulous blog!
Yours sincerely,
Grey DoveGrey Dovehttp://www.fromgoatstosoaps.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3423410690702297063.post-90173149786981281222015-05-07T15:52:42.757-07:002015-05-07T15:52:42.757-07:00Hi Grey Dove, thank you very much for your comment...Hi Grey Dove, thank you very much for your comment and for sharing your own tips here. The more the merrier! Everyone brings their own expertise and experiences to the blogging sphere and it's definitely important to be reminded that there are readers who use adaptive software when navigating the web. Thank you for raising that excellent point.

There have been many periods of my life when I've needed to use a speech recognition software (Dragon Naturally Speaking) myself in order to be able to write on the computer (this being due to some of my medical conditions). I realize that this is not the same as those softwares designed with visual impairments in mind of course, but both can present challenging when navigating the web. I sincerely hope that the program you're using isn't running into too many issues navigating my site.

Agreed completely regarding point number seven extending to life in general. Dressing in a way that brings you joy and comfort is something I've been championing from day one here on my blog and encourage everybody to so so as often as possible, whether they're a fan of vintage or any other style/era of clothing. You only get one life. Why spend it wearing clothing that doesn't fill your heart with joy?

Many sincere thanks again again for your terrific comment.

Have a beautiful Thursday,
♥ Jessica

Witchcrafted Lifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02992822472797191121noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3423410690702297063.post-71531876237117178852015-05-07T11:40:46.175-07:002015-05-07T11:40:46.175-07:00Dear Jessica,
Thank you for this fantastic list fu...Dear Jessica,
Thank you for this fantastic list full of excellent advice!

If I may I'd like to:
1, thank you for the excellent suggestion of keeping a list of posting ideas. Some times the most obvious tip is the one that fails to spring to mind.
2, If I may expand slightly on point 29 and address your readers, please remember that there are those online, reading blogs and participating who have to rely on adaptive software in order to access any site. Not only is a less cluttered sight generally more appealing visually but it is usually easier to use then one over flowing with links and buttons (especially unlabelled buttons). Like-wise some colour schemes are very difficult for those with vision problems to read. To any potential blogger, please remember to be inclusive, make your site (blog and business) accessible. There are lots of online resources to help you do so.

And 3rd, I love your 7th point! Not only for blogging but a way of living. For many years now I have dressed to suit how I look, how I feel, and how I want to appear. Whether or not I was counted in style (and try dressing in twenty year old clothes before the word vintage was en vogue!) was not the point, I like to be me!

Again, thank you for this terrific post, all your help and ideas, and your beautifully expressed appreciation of and for your readers.
Yours sincerely,
Grey Dove Grey Dovehttp://www.fromgoatstosoaps.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3423410690702297063.post-82026152563470307762014-11-11T21:02:02.102-08:002014-11-11T21:02:02.102-08:00Hi lovely Lindsay, thank you very much for your te...Hi lovely Lindsay, thank you very much for your terrific comment and multi-part question. I'm delighted to answer all the points that you raised.

The vintage community as a subculture exists online and off, with the offline group being larger because obviously not everyone who loves/wears/fills their house with/etc vintage blogs or has otherwise made their presence known online. Over the years the numbers in both camps have fluttered and they certainly are not at their all time highest level online at the moment by any means. I'd say that the heyday there (so far) was 2008 to 2011.

I'd been Googling (and searching on Etsy, eBay, and other online vintage shops) for various topics and items I was after for years before I first discovered any of the early blogs (some of which are still around to this day) that were/are devoted to vintage. I really started to follow and comment on some of the earlier pioneers in this field in 2008 (only a small handful predated '08) and was so inspired, influenced and enthused by them and their beautiful sites that I launched my own in 2009 and made sure to continue to follow and comment on those same blogs and scores of others that came along (some, again, that are still with us to this day).

It was, and will always be, very important to me to form genuine relationships with my fellow vintage bloggers. I never comment on someone's site in the hopes of getting a comment back. I do so because I care about what they have to say and want to support them in this shared undertaking that we're both putting our time and energy into day after day, week after week, month after month and so on.

Back in those early days, some of the ways I discovered and connected with fellow bloggers were through blog rolls on other people's sites, through social media (namely Twitter back then, as Pinterest and Instagram weren't around yet and I didn't join FB until the end of 2012), discovering them via mentions in other bloggers posts, and because they found me (in some cases) first and we formed a connect that way.

I'm the sole vintage blogger (that I know of) for hours in all directions from my small Canadian town, so I don't have any such fellow bloggers or mid-century wearers to hang out with locally, but I have had the great pleasure while travelling to now meet-up with a handful of my fellow vintage loving ladies (some who are bloggers, others who aren't, but are majorly into the vintage lifestyle). It's an amazing, inspiring experience and one I can't recommend highly enough, if you get the chance. I've formed close friendships with many people in the vintage world and finally getting to meet a small number of them is person has been incredibly rewarding and beautiful. I really hope that as time goes on, I can meet even more face-to-face.

These days the vintage community is, to a degree, everywhere. Some still blog, plenty have turned to just social media, some do both, others aren't really online much (if at all), but you may meet them at vintage events (such as fairs, festivals, Viva Las Vegas, Twinwood, The Jazz Age Lawn Party, and classic car shows) in person. There are oodles of Facebook groups for vintage fans as well, many of which cater to specific demographics, as well as a few vintage related forums, the most famous of which is The Fedora Lounge. I'm a rather shy person and never joined any of the forums, but I am in a few FB groups, which I enjoy being a part of.

Please feel free to keep any and all further (and/or follow up) questions coming, my dear. I'm always here to help however I can.

Sincerely yours in all things vintage,
♥ Jessica Witchcrafted Lifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02992822472797191121noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3423410690702297063.post-69594331263111172002014-11-11T18:41:59.775-08:002014-11-11T18:41:59.775-08:00Thank you Jessica!

How did you connect with 250 vintage bloggers? Did you just google topics? Did it start off with 5? Have you met any of them personally. Indeed, sometimes I need to remind myself of a few of these points as well. As others have said useful for bloggers at all stages, be they just starting out or several years in the game. Myself included! So many hints and suggestions that really resonate with me and come at just the right time, helping to remind me that blogging is not a popularity contest nor as you say a sprint race; that sometimes it's good to pull back and take a day or two's rest and not spread oneself too thin. The community spirit of [vintage] blogging is something always to be appreciated too, and you have always struck me as an integral member. I get ideas for posts around the clock, too (I've actually been woken up while asleep in the middle of the night with an idea and been so propelled and inspired by it that I wrote a whole post right then and there). I keep a (long) running list of ideas that I may want to write about in a Word document on my desktop, and jot down ideas on my phone, a notebook, or even just a scrap of paper anytime they strike and I'm not at home (or on my computer). I've even emailed myself ideas from my phone while on the go. A great idea is too valuable to let slip through the cracks, as it so easily can, during the daily grind.

Very cute mental image - I could see my cat taking dictation, too, and she's very methodical and would make for a good secretary (Annie, our dog, would try to eat the pencil and paper :D).

♥ Jessica Witchcrafted Lifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02992822472797191121noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3423410690702297063.post-63127915707377394502014-02-26T00:05:29.019-08:002014-02-26T00:05:29.019-08:00Thank you very much, dear Lisa.
