Before launching into the heart of today's fun new vintage outfit post, I want to take a moment to sincerely, wholeheartedly thank each and every one of you bestowed happy birthday wishes on me over the past few days. Whether here on my blog, Facebook, Instagram, via email, snail mail, or anywhere else, I was super touched by your beautiful wishes and can't convey how much they helped to make my 32nd b-day all the more fabulous!
While - to no one's surprise here locally - we had scads of rain on my birthday, for the Canada Day long weekend at the start of July, we were treated to a bit of sunshine and tons of wind! It was then that we snapped the photos seen here today.
My folks took their camper trailer down to a beautiful campground in the nearby little town of Osoyoos, which is located on the British Columbia side of the BC/Washington state border. A large campground with, I'd estimate, a few hundred camping spots for RVs, campers, trailers, and tents, located on a picturesque lake, this park always teams with Okanagan locals and tourists alike during the summer months.
I've been past it many times, but this was my first time visiting that park. As I've blogged about before over the years (such as in this 2012 post), I'm a massive fan of camping and while the more rugged version is, sadly, out of the question for me these days due to my health, I'll still jump at the chance to go glamping anytime I can and that's just what Tony and I did when my mom and step-dad (pictured below) invited us to spend time with them on the Canada Day long weakened.
For a day of outdoor fun, I knew that I wanted a comfy, festive outfit and started with a fabulous new vintage style flamingo print headscarf that I recently received as a review gift from a great British vintage/rockabilly/pinup inspired housewares and fashion company called Inkabilly.
This scarf is wonderful! Unlike many contemporary vintage style headscarves, this one is a proper square, not a long, skinny shape (nothing against that style - I love it, too, and own several, it's just extra handy to have a square shaped one sometimes) and can - depending on your head and/or hair size - be worn WW2 worker style or folded to various widths, as I've done here.
At just £6.99, this vibrant flamingo print headscarf (which is also available in a purple version; this being the aqua one) is refreshingly budget-friendly, especially for those in the UK.
It is is well made from sturdy, soft 100% cotton. The colours are crisp, the design clear, and the size a very versatile 54cm X 54cm. I really adore this scarf and want to sincerely thank Inkabilly - who I will be teaming up with, and sharing more about, here on my multiple times again in the second half of 2016 - for this handy, stylish vintage inspired accessory.
As many a fellow hourglass and/or pear shaped lady will tell you, finding pants that fit both your hips and your waist can be trickier than tracking down that proverbial needle in a haystack, and this pair of 1950s/1960s black velour pedal pushers is no exception. But that's okay - with the help of a big safety pin and a Hell Bunny stretch belt, it's fairly easy to wrangle the excess inches in the waist, and no one who sees me fully dressed is the wiser.
I picked these classic pedal pushers up two or three years ago from my favourite vintage store in the Okanagan, Frugal Frocks. This is the first time they've appeared here on my blog though, and I'm delighted that I finally got the chance to share them with all of you. Though a very summery garment, the fact that these pants are made from black velour makes them a great choice for balmy spring and autumn days as well (you could even layer them over tights, if need be, for added warmth).
I own very few pairs of pants and of those, not many are genuine vintage, so this pair - even if they're too big in the waist - are a firm favourite. They're super comfy and go with a zillion different tops, including this vintage appropriate punchy pink and white sleeveless button front skirt.
Camping isn't the time for a ton of accessories or delicate pieces, but that doesn't mean I skip jewelry or pretty shoes (I also had black flats in my purse that day for walking on rougher terrain) when the Coleman stove and sleeping bags come out.
Classic black hoop earrings, various bangle bracelets, the aforementioned white stretch belt, my beloved 50s/60s white tile purse, and a pair of recently thrifted (this past spring) coral peep toe pumps (plus a black cropped shrug) round out the mix - and helped to keep the wind at bay.
We had a wonderful holiday long weekend - eating al fresco, soaking up the moments of sun we did receive, and filling our lungs with fresh air. Relaxing and thoroughly welcome after a rocky June, it was also a ton of fun - just like this outfit itself - and hopefully it will be one of many sunny days we'll get, interspersed amongst the rain, as summer continues to unfold.
No matter what Mother Nature gets up to though, there's always vivid colours and tropical themes like the flamingos on this lovely Inkabilly headscarf to keep one in the summertime spirit, and that is well worth cheering about as well.
Happy Belated Birthday! Sorry I missed it! I've been on vacation and I'm still trying to get back into the swing of things. Love your outfit, that scarf is fabulous! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, sweet Laurie. Please don't worry for the tiniest of moments. Vacays take priority over blogging for sure - especially if they aren't a common occurrence. I've really been enjoying your travel posts and am so happy for you guys that you were able to get away for a much needed trip.
DeleteBig hugs & happy weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
Ummm I thought my mom and I were the only ones who called them pedal pushers anymore!!!!! Love that you call them that - in the US they're opened called Capris now? I know, weird.
ReplyDeleteANYWAY! You look so adorable in pink! I love this casual yet sassy outfit for your little celebration. As for the photo bombers, I think the little bugs add something to the photos! Almost like little sparkles around you ;)
It's interesting, you know, I use both terms, but tend to refer to the vintage version as pedal pushers (especially when they have tapered legs like this pair) and the modern iteration as capris. It's cool that you, your mom, and I still use this classic term for cropped pants.
DeleteAww, I love your upbeat way of looking at our winged photo boomers. That's
so charming.
Oodles of hugs coming your way,
♥ Jessica
This outfit is so different from what you usually post here- I love it! Definitely the most glamorous camping outfit around :) I wish I was so glam when I go camping! The flamingos are so great too.
ReplyDeletewww.theartyologist.com
Thank you very much, sweet gal. True - especially in the last couple of years, though this is super in keeping with what I often wear on a day-to-day basis during the summer. Swap in denim capris or my Freddies jeans (plus more rugged shoes) and this is practically my warm weather dog park uniform. :D
DeleteScores of hugs & happy weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
Oh its great to see Tony! and of course your mom and step dad.
ReplyDeleteI like your cropped trousers and that pretty flamingo headscarf - you look lovely my dear Jessica, looks like you made the best of the day. HUgs.
Thank you very much, sweet Lorena. You know, though my mom and Tony have appeared here every now and then over the years, I think this the first time my step-dad has (or the least, the first time in many years). He isn't a huge fan of being photographed, which is why - but I loved this snap of them together so much and knew I just had to share it with the world.
DeleteOodles of hugs & thanks,
♥ Jessica
I love that outfit! I think I own a couple pieces similar to what you are wearing so I might try to put together an outfit like it. ^.^
ReplyDelete~Lydia~ <3
How fun! I'm delighted to know this outfit inspired you, sweet gal. Definitely feel free to shot me a link if you post pictures of your outfit online.
DeleteBig hugs,
♥ Jessica
The color combinations in this outfit are really striking! Especially love how the flamingos in the headscarf play off the vibrant pink of your shirt. Very classy camping garb!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, sweet Janet. This headscarf is so fun! I really like when accessories are rich in colours like this, as you can base such a wide range of outfits around them.
DeleteMany hugs & happy weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
I love the look! I still call capris petal pushers too. When I do, people don't know what I am talking about:) The scarf looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, outside of the vintage world, it (much like "clam-diggers" and "flood pants") really isn't a term that's used very often any more. Shame, it's rather cute, if you ask me. :)
DeleteMany thanks, hugs & cheerful Friday wishes,
♥ Jessica
Loving the pedal pushers and scarf, they have a real holiday vibe to them. I love camping so much. When my boys were small, we would camp in the Peak District, and to wake up to the stunning views of the peaks was a real delight. The smell of damp grass immediately transports me back to those times, the sun already hot in the morning and sitting outside eating breakfast, just bliss. Your family look utterly beautiful, such kindness from everyone's eyes. No wonder you are one happy camper ( if that isn't just a phrase here in England ). Xx
ReplyDeleteThat sounds absolutely amazing, sweet Emily. There is so much to appreciate and enjoy about camping. I've always been very grateful for the fact that my parents took us camping from early childhood onward and that a passion for it was instilled in me from the get-go.
DeleteThat is a truly touching thing to be told. I will share your incredibly sweet compliment with everyone pictured here. Thank you with all my heart.
Huge hugs,
♥ Jessica
Happy belated birthday!! This outfit is all kinds of cute!! Those bracelets are great; I've really been getting into bangles myself lately. And anything flamingo print is adorable in my book!
ReplyDeleteSame here - yet I own super little that is flamingo themed (totally unintentionally, I assure you). In fact, astonishingly (given my love of novelty brooches), I don't even have a flamingo pin. Definitely need to try and remedy that pronto!
DeleteMany hugs & joyful weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
You are so darn adorable! I think this is one of my favorite outfit posts. Love the look!
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you sweetly, my lovely friend. You know, it's one of my faves this year, too. I could happily live in these fun black velour pants all summer long - and with the continued nippy weather, I might just have to! ;)
DeleteOodles of hugs & joyful weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
So cute! That white belt is the perfect accent (and one I wouldn't have thought to pair with the darker rest of outfit. Must remember.)
ReplyDeleteYou and your mother share those striking cheekbones, clearly! How lovely to see some photos of your family too.
Thank you very much, honey. I love that you can see similarities between me and my mom's cheekbones. So often I've heard that we don't look at all alike, so it's really touching that you can see a common feature between us. Your comment truly made my day and then some.
DeleteMany hugs & happy weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
I have never been proper camping before, but there's a chance that it could be happening in the near future and I can't help but think ahead as to what to wear! Your outfit is the perfect inspiration for a vintage girl goes camping - you haven't sacrificed your personal style and instead look very sensible and glam at the same time. I will definitely be trying to emulate an outfit inspired by this when I go camping - most likely with my own pair of pedal pushers :D I am so glad to see that you had a fantastic birthday and camping trip!
ReplyDeleteHow awesomely exciting that you may be going "full on" camping for the first time soon. I'm delighted for you and hope that your excursion is everything and more that you're hoping it will be, sweet Harlow.
DeleteBig hugs & sincere thanks for your wonderfully lovely comment,
♥ Jessica
Jessica, you put the GLAM in glamping!!! Hot pink and black look great together and on you :) My mom calls them petal pushers too. Never saw velvet ones...perfect for glamping!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes, Dee
Hi Dee, thank you very much for your super nice comment and compliments. I used to shy away from hot pink a lot, but in the past couple of years, I've been warming up to it more and more.
DeleteSending lots of hugs & cheerful weekend wishes your way,
♥ Jessica
As usual, you have a wonderfully put together outfit even while camping! I certainly don't think very well about keeping a put together look while I am home much less while I am on vacation! You certainly put me to shame.

You're too sweet, Sarah dear, thank you very much. I'm sure you look terrific any day of the week.

What a pretty outfit. I'm glad you have so many friends and followers. You deserve lots of support.
ReplyDeleteThat's very kind of you to say, Ally. Thank you so much - I'm grateful to count you amongst my longtime online friends.
DeleteHave a fabulous weekend!
♥ Jessica
Hi Jessica, this post has got me wanting to immerse myself in nature. I'm glad you and your family had some time to relax and enjoying the camping atmosphere. It's so nice to see a picture of your Mum and step-dad, your Mum sounds like a wonderful person from what you have written about in past posts. The flamingo head scarf is fabulous, as you are too! Jess Xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, sweet Jess. I love that my folks appeared here way before Halloween (that's usually when they make an appearance on my blog :)) and that I was able to get snaps involving all four of us for this post. We're really blessed to all share a close, wonderful relationship and I think that shine through here beautifully.
DeleteTons of hugs coming your way,
♥ Jessica
Nice colour, and the lighting in those shots is just so lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, dear Clare. Sunlight is worth its weight in gold around here at the moment (such a strange statement for summertime, I know), so getting to capture some that day was a real treat.
DeleteSending hugs & cheerful weekend wishes your way,
♥ Jessica
I'm glad to hear you had some sun at least! These super fun pants remind me of 18th century breeches in the best possible way! They would be too cute with a vest come fall for a Georgian hunting scene inspired look. It's great that they are a nice weight for multiple seasons, and I love the fun pink and stack of colorful bracelets you paired with the classic black ensemble!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely see that, too, and adore the comparison (I'm a huge fan of 18th century fashion). I love your idea of partnering them with a vest and will definitely be giving that a spin. Thank you for suggesting it and for your thoroughly terrific comment.
DeleteTons of hugs & happy weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
ahh your head scarf is so adorable!! I am obsessed with this look!!

You're so sweet, Laura dear. Thank you very much! I could happily live in this outfit all summer long and you know, with the continued rain up this way, I might just have to so as to stay warm! :)
DeleteBig hugs & joyful Friday wishes,
♥ Jessica
Happy belated birthday! This is such a stylish outfit, definitely something I could imagine wearing myself. Black velvet/velour is probably my favorite kind of fabric ever and I love that you are wearing it in summer! (And now I really want to make my own black velour pedal pushers or cigarette pants).
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a sumptuous creation? I'm a huge fan, too, and have a couple of skirts in it that are beyond fall - spring wardrobe staples for me. I love that these pants easily let me continue to enjoy black velvet/velour into the summer months, too.
DeleteThank you very much for your wonderfully nice comment. I hope that you're having a terrific week.
Big hugs,
♥ Jessica
This sounds like you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteI really love your outfit and makeup - gorgeous as always.
Many hugs,
Sandra <3
Thank you so much, darling gal - I love that you spotted my makeup here, which is somewhat different than I usually wear on camera (aqua eye shadow and black liner on my bottom lashes joined the usual mix). Great spotting!
DeleteMany hugs & happy weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
What a awesome outfit on you, love the pedal pushers, and that pink blouse! Plus those coral peep-toe shoes and the bangles! Such a fun outfit! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, honey. Aren't those shoes a delight? I just about fell over with joy when I tried them on in a thrift store this past spring and they fit me (I have really hard to fit feet). They'll definitely be seeing a lot of wardrobe action, especially since they're delightfully comfortable to walk in. Perfect pair for the beach, too, as you take nothing to slip on or off.
DeleteBig hugs & happy weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
and how glamping! very much! :-)
ReplyDeletei´m so glad you had the chance to hang around in the beautiful nature for a while - with the comfort of a camping park!
love your "kniebundhosen" - you know i wear them for "sporty" occasions too... you can pop them in my atelier to make fit anytime ;-))
and your blouse and scarf and shoes are fab too!! perfect for the festive camping weekend with your sweet parents! and tony´s in the picture too! does he like camping with you? R. was not excited at the beginning - now he´s very happy in a tiny tent - but the very "rugged" version that is my cup of tea is still to "wild" for him - men! ;-P
wish you all a sunny and peaceful weekend! xxxxxxx
Ooohh, if only, darling Beate, if only. I would trust you to alter any garment of mine, no questions asked. You're an incredible seamstress.
DeleteTony really likes camping, which is so cool, as he didn't grow up doing it in Italy. He's a big fan of fishing, so from there, I think camping was just a natural extension. :)
Thank you very much for your fabulous comment. I really hope that you guys are doing well and enjoying a sunny, terrific July.
Tons of hugs & happy weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
What a great casual comfy outfit, and still with great vintage vibe. I love the flamingo hair scarf, it add a little whimsy to the whole outfit. Glad to hear you had a great birthday and weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much across the board, lovely lady. We definitely did - aside from the rain on my b-day, it was a blast and chalked full of sooo much tasty food (as birthdays should be :)). I think I'll be full for the rest of the summer. ;D
DeleteI hope that you're doing well and enjoying a sunny, splendid July, too.
Big hugs coming your way,
♥ Jessica
Hope you had a wonderful birthday! This look is darling! I love the flamingo print headscarf and those pedal pushers :)
ReplyDeleteThank you sweetly, my dear. Rain aside, it was great birthday. Low key, spent with loved ones, and filled with fab food. Certainly a great note to usher my 32rd year of life in on.
DeleteBig hugs & happy weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
First of all, happy belated birthday Jessica! What a sweet outfit. I particularly love the polka dot shirt (no surprise, I guess) teamed with the green brooch, and your flamingo headscarf of course! It's lovely to see pictures of you and Tony, and your mum and stepdad. How fabulous your mum looks! A big hug and birthday kisses, Ann xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderfully lovely comment, dear Ann. Thank you very, very much! I'm delighted to have had the chance to share a photo of my parents here at this point in the year (frequently my relatives only appear here at Halloween, it seems). Tony captured such a sweet, spontaneous moment of love between them and created an image that I'll always cherish now.
DeleteBig hugs & happy weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
Oh my gosh this outfit is just the cutest! I love the bright pops of color, and especially the bracelets. I hope your birthday was tons of fun :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, honey. It definitely was - time with family, copious amount of tasty food, and lovely gifts. Sure, it rained like mad, but even that couldn't dampen my spirits. After all, your birthday comes but once a year and is worth getting giddy over, no matter the weather. :)
DeleteOodles of hugs & happy weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
Jessica, you look fantastic! I love this outfit and it looks great on you. I love how you coordinate your colours! I hope you had a fantastic birthday! Warm hugs. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you sweetly on all points, dear Linda. I did indeed have a really nice, laid back birthday celebration (hard to believe a full week has passed since then already - just 51 more to go until the next b-day! :D). Aside from the rain, it was a wonderful day and a really lovely note to usher my 32rd year of life in on.
DeleteI hope that you're doing well and having a splendid summer, lovely lady.
xoxo ♥ Jessica
Jessica!
ReplyDeleteI'll start by saying something off-topic (maybe!): not often enough do we feature darling Tony on these pages - I know he's the Artist behind the camera - so, give him a hug from me, for being the such a caring, patient & vintage-supporting fella. Tell him from me "Tony, you are a role model" :)
Your outfit is detailed, every single it is, as always, picked out with the greatest care for making each-other compliment best. You have mastered this art form, my dear. You have also quite great at doing make-up - and YET you haven't spoken much about it. Makeup IS a bib part of ANY girl's life (vintage loving, or not), and I believe we could do good by having you showing some "how to" - especially since you're wearing glasses, and that's a tricky one.
I hope rain has stopped over there - over here it started yesterday, and so far there's no hope of a splash of sunshine.. we might even need boats soon.
MArija
Dearest Marija, each of your words holds such weight and meaning. Thank you, truly, for your incredibly kind, wonderful compliments and for sharing how much you enjoy seeing "the man behind the lens" appear here as well.
DeleteTony isn't overly keen (nor are my folks) on appearing on camera, but sometimes I can convince him (and them) otherwise and hope that as time goes on, just as I myself did thanks to my very blog itself, he'll come to love being on camera all the more.
I really appreciate your desire to learn more about my makeup process. Truth be told, I've never really thought of myself as overly skilled in the makeup application department. I have, humbly, mastered my own day-to-day looks, but beyond that, I'd say my skills are fairly average. Add to that the fact that it can be physically challenging for me to do my make-up, due to some of my conditions (my arms and hands usually shake throughout the process, and I usually need to take breaks throughout the process to rebuild my strength, for example), and I've long shied away from the idea of doing makeup videos or even photo tutorials. I'll happily talk "theory" however, and do enjoy delving into beauty related topics here periodically. Perhaps one day I'll do a tutorial or two though. The longer I blog, even with the challenges involved, the more the idea appeals to me. :)
Your awesomely lovely comment was just what I needed to wrap a bit of a rough (from a health standpoint) week up on and again, sincerely, want to thank you for your insightful compliments.
Giant hugs & happy wishes for the second half of July,
♥ Jessica
That's a great summer outfit! The coral pink really goes well with the black and white, and the bracelets are lovely. I also love hair coverings with interesting patterns. I don't think I have any hair coverings that size and shape, though there's a first time for everything. Since I'm not married, I don't have a religious obligation to cover my hair, though I've taken to wearing my beautiful head scarves when I go to Conservative services. It would look odd if I (a known single woman) covered my hair in that way at an Orthodox service, though I personally can go either way.
ReplyDeleteHi Carrie-Anne, thank you very much for your immensely nice compliments, as well as for sharing more about the role that hair/head coverings play in your own life and faith with me/us here. That is an area that I have always found deeply interesting and which has such a rich history behind it.
DeleteWishing you a sunny Sunday and excellent week ahead,
♥ Jessica
Dear Jessica,
ReplyDeleteyou look gorgeous! I really like the pin-up style you sported for a Camping day with your beloved ones.
I hope you are doing well and that the Canadian Post won´t strike again (I hope your etsy shop wasn´t hugely affected).
I wish you a wonderful Weekend and start of the 3rd week of July,
Eva (from Luxembourg/Germany)
Hi sweet Eva, thank you very much for your lovely comment and kind hopes regarding Canada Post. I second them immensely and will be keeping my fingers and toes beyond crossed that the strike doesn't flare-up again this summer (or ever, though that might not be all that realistic). For the moment, things have mellowed on that front and Canada Post says that their services are back to normal, so I reopened my shop a few days ago. I did lose several days of business and am feeling the financial ramifications of such, but things could have been worlds worse if the strike situation had carried on for many weeks or even months, so I'm grateful that such wasn't the case and hopeful that I'll be able to recoup the lost sales throughout the rest of the year.
DeleteMany hugs, thanks again, and joyful mid-July wishes,
♥ Jessica
Great outfit for cycling too! (For those of us not of the lycra brigade :) So fabulous to meet your family members, your Mum is beautiful. And I have always (really, deep down) preferred Glamping, as long as there is bird life, water, Mother Nature surrounding me...You look a picture of relaxed happiness.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, sweet Elizabeth, on every point. I really appreciate your kind comment and am happy to be able to share snaps of my family here with you. Usually my mom and Tony only appear on my blog in the post that I do about what we all wore for Halloween (and for my step-dad, who isn't keen on having his photo taken, this might honestly be the first time he's ever appeared on CV - or at least the first time in many years), so getting a chance to do so months before then was a real treat indeed. Hopefully as years continue to roll on, I can convince them all to spend more time in front of the lens with me, too. :)
DeleteMany hugs & happy wishes for the coming week,
♥ Jessica
Love all the fun summery colours in this outfit and your 'do with the cute scarf <3 Sounds like a really fun time - I'm not much of a camper, as I like my modern amenities too much, but if I had a camper van with a powerpoint I might be able to get more on board with it :D xx
ReplyDeleteThank you sweetly, my darling friend. We really did have a blast! I (we) don't get to go camping near enough (largely due to my health, but also as a result of our incredibly busy work schedules), so ushering in the summer on the Canada Day long weekend by doing so was a huge treat. Hopefully we'll be able to head out again later in the season, too (perhaps for the August civic holiday long weekend). Time shall tell! :)
DeleteI hope that you guys are doing well and enjoying a sunny, fantastic July.
Tons of hugs,
♥ Jessica
I love to see you and Tony together. You are a beautiful couple and it always makes me smile. Of course you look gorgeous as always and your outfit lends itself to camping perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThank you so immensely much, honey. It makes me smile, heart and soul included, when I'm able to share snaps of Tony here as well. He isn't nearly as keen on being in front of the lens as he is behind it, and I totally respect that (I myself was staggeringly camera shy until my late 20s), but do try to share snaps that he's okay with me posting (of him) here every once in a while. He's just too important and beloved a part of my life not to.
DeleteBig hugs & happy mid-July wishes,
♥ Jessica
Oh Jessica, you and your outfit are so cute. And I just love getting to see more of your family too. It looks like you all had a wonderful day :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Tanith dear! And I flat out adore getting to share more snaps of my loved ones here. Most are not keen on appearing in front of the lens very often, so occasions like this make my heart smile all the more. Hopefully I can get everyone to "say cheese" again for Halloween (or perhaps even a little earlier in the autumn, for Canadian Thanksgiving).
DeleteMany hugs & happy wishes for the new week,
♥ Jessica
What a fabulous outfit! Thanks for putting our headscarf with such delightful pieces. Love the colours ... and that brooch! I am also a bit fan of pedal pushers! I'm not a big dress or skirt wearer - I wear trousers most of the time and so these are great for the warmer months (not that we get very many here in the UK!). In fact I'm busily trying to refit a zip into my favourite pair ready for our camping trip on the weekend. Let's hope we have dry weather! I'll be trying to be as colourful as you .... Lx
ReplyDeleteHi Lee, thank you very much for your wonderful comment and again for the awesome collaboration that we've teamed up for this year. Your products are a joy to wear/use, so very well made, and right up my alley in every vintage adoring way.
DeleteHow fun that you're heading out camping soon. I hope that you guys have a warm, sunny, fantastic time and that all goes well with the pants that you're mending the zip on.
Many heartfelt thanks again & the happiest of summertime wishes,
♥ Jessica
Dear Jessica,
ReplyDeleteI love the way you have your hair done up for this post. And that darling pin looks wonderful against the pink polka-dot blouse, matching that delightful head scarf.
Your camping trip sounds like too much fun and makes me want to get out camping as well. I think that it is great you like to look nice while camping; I always like to have fun with stylish outfits while camping, like those you might see in an old 1950s movie. It makes the whole experience more fun.
I googled Osoyoos, and the photos reminded me of camping on Lake Michigan as a child. I would love to go there again.
Wow, Osoyoos is so close to Washington. A long time ago when I was in second grade, I used to live in Bellingham, WA - which is at the top of Washington, only 4hours and 20 minutes from Osoyoos.
Thanks for this delightful visit.
Love and hugs,
♥Hope
Thank you very much, sweet Hope. Being a full-time wig wearer (for the better part of four years now - my stars, how time flies!) due to medical hair loss, I'm somewhat limited, much to my chagrin, when it comes to styling options. This is about as close to an "updo" as I can come these days and you know, it's a style I really like (and think I should wear more often), too. Especially when the sun is blazing and no one wants hair - real of faux - on back of their neck.
DeleteIt really does, I completely agree. Even back when I was a youngster in Girl Guides and my troop would go camping, I'd be the one packing pink tee shirts, sparkly hair accessories, rugged yet cute jewelry, etc. Weaving vintage styles into the mix now is just a natural extension of those early days spent outdoors. :)
It's really sweet that you Googled Osoyoos. It's a place that I've spent a lot of time over the years, given it's proximity to Penticton, and that I really enjoy. It's a sweet little town with so much breathtaking scenery and a vibrant community. I'd welcome the chance to camp there again anytime. How lovely that it reminds you of your own wonderful memories of Lake Michigan. I really hope you're able to return. The Great Lakes are so breathtaking!
That's really cool! When I was wayyyy younger, my family lived in the city of Abbotsford, BC, which is only an hour away from Bellingham. Depending on when you lived there, we might have lived really close to each other for a while (we were there in the late eighties straight on through to June 1993).
You're very welcome. Thank you again for this, and all of your, wonderful comment(s), my lovely friend.
Big hugs!

Hello again,
DeleteI was in Bellingham WAY before you got anywhere near it...WAY back in 1971. We lived there for a little over a year when I was in second grade at Happy Valley Elementary School; before that (my year of first grade)we lived in Edmonds, WA - 78 miles south of Bellingham. After Bellingham, we moved to Kansas City, MO where I went to school in third grade.
My first child was born in 1988; you were about 4 years old then, and I was 24 :) But it is a nice thought thinking we DID live around the same area at one time.
Oh, Jessica, this has been a very happy little chat. Thank you.
Love and hugs,
♥Hope
Happy Belated Birthday Wishes, Jessica. Your celebratory weekend sounded wonderful fun. Lovely to see you and Tony and your very young looking parents, there's some good genes going on there - your mum is stunning.
ReplyDeleteLove vintage trousers! xxx
Thank you sweetly across the board, dear Vix. It's so awesome that my folks appeared here before the fall (as, in a given year, they -like Tony - usually only do around Halloween time, when I recap what we each sported for October 31st) and I hope that as time goes on, I can convince them to let me share more photos of them on CV (sans Halloween costume).
DeleteI'll definitely be passing your compliment on to my parents, both of whom I know will be flattered and touched by it (my mom is 58, my step-dad soon to be 59 in September).
Tons of hugs & happy mid-summer wishes,
♥ Jessica
I see a happy husband! <3 And new eye makeup here! :) Colourful and lovely. I don't own many pants/jeans either, as I think it is almost impossible to find some that really fits my body, so I have given up. I have very few that I rarely use, but they are nice to have when you need something warmer and more practical like this event. I am still sorry I missed your birthday, a small surprise will soon be sent your way, dear. :) XOXO
ReplyDeleteGood (Canadian) morning dear Sanne, thank you very much for your lovely comment (as well as for your awesome Etsy order a few hours ago - you truly rock!).
DeleteSo very true about pants and it's the main reason I own so few. Interestingly, I find I wear pants and capris/pedal pushers more in the summer, on average, than in the winter. I think such stems from the fact that, objectively, than can be a more logical fit for certain outdoors activities, than dresses and skirts. Though, that said, I do wear pants/jeans to the dog park all year 'round, as that is truly not the place for clothing that can't hold up to a lot of "rough and tumble" behaviour from energetic animals, plus the dirt and dust of such locations.
Thanks for noticing my makeup. It's interesting, you know. I deviate more from my usual 2 - 3 makeup looks more during the summer, too. It was fun to splash on some aqua-y type hues and also line my lower lashes (something I almost always did from the ages of about 15 - 25), too. I've worn this look numerous times before, but I think this is the first time it's appeared on my blog. I sometimes do a plumy smokey eye (I think it was on one of my YouTube vids last summer) and I'm thinking that should land here at some point, too.
You are truly sweet and caring, my wonderful friend. It's totally okay - please don't worry or beat yourself up for the tiniest of moments. It's super lovely of you to want to send a gift my way. Thank you very much. I'm sure that I'll adore it and really touched by your thoughtfulness.
Many hugs & the happiest of wishes for the last week of July,
♥ Jessica
So cute! I love everything about this outfit! The colors look amazing on you! Sounds like you had an amazing Canada Day weekend. I hope you had a wonderful birthday! <3
ReplyDeleteI simply adore this outfit on you! One of my favorites! Hope you are still enjoying your birthday month! Yes, the older we get the longer we find ways to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteSo true! :) Thank you, my lovely friend. If anything, the second half of the month has been better and more enjoyable than the first, so perhaps my b-day was just what this summer needed to turn itself around (June was a really lousy month for a number of reasons and the rain that plagued our town for about 3.5 months lately wasn't helping lift one's spirits either). I have a good feeling about August and hope that it's a fabulous month on both our ends.
DeleteSending big hugs & happy Friday wishes your way,
♥ Jessica
What a delightfully classic and chic outfit!
ReplyDeleteAlso sounds like Canada Day was so much fun!
xoxo
-Janey
Thank you very much, sweet Janey. One thing about this look is that it struck me as I was penning this post, that I don't believe I've ever worn heels + pants on camera here before. Wow! Considering I do it relatively often (mostly during the summer), that was a bit surprising for sure. Definitely something to aim for (in snaps) more often from here on out.
DeleteMany hugs & thanks for your lovely blog comments this week,
♥ Jessica
It sounds like a lovely trip and I really like the outfit that you have chosen for it. Great pedal pushers! Lovely to see your family members too.
ReplyDeleteThank you across the board, dear Kate. It was awesome to be able to post snaps of Tony, my mom and step-dad this summer. So often they only appear here in my Halloween night related entry, so this feels like quite a special treat.
DeleteI hope that you guys are doing well and enjoying a fantastic start of August.
Big hugs,
♥ Jessica
Flamingo! Love, love, love! Polka dots too!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday to you! Love birthdays too xxx
Thank you sweetly, darling gal. It's hard to believe more than five weeks have whizzed past this my birthday. Wow! On the plus side, there's little more than two months to go until Halloween (aka, my favourite day of the year :)).
DeleteI really hope that you guys are doing well and having a great weekend.
Tons of hugs,
♥ Jessica
