There are certain names in the vintage fashion community that elicit squeals of delight, top many a wish list, and are, by the same token, found in scores of closets the world over, one of which is undeniably vintage reproduction footwear company Miss L Fire.

Famous for their vibrant colour, swoon worthily sublime vintage inspired designs, quality products, and releases that frequently sell out, Miss L Fire began life in the UK in 2005 by company founder and designer, Lynsey Hand, and it has continued to grow in popularity, amassing legions of loyal fans, since day one.

Miss L Fire's offering are bold, beautiful, and very, very vintage appropriate (their styles typically channel the 1940s and/50s, though some can easily work well for fans of earlier and later decades, too), which makes them a huge hit with those who enjoy sporting vintage, rockabilly, and pinup styles, in addition to folks who may just like a slight nod to the past with their footwear choices or who simply see and fall head-over-heels in love with this company's products. Their spring/summer 2014 recently launched and it chocked full of incredibly lovely, covetable old school inspired heels, wedges, and even an ankle wrap ballet flat.

I have been smitten with Miss L Fire's shoes since the moment I first spotted them online several years ago, however it wasn't until just a few weeks ago that my first pair made its way into my closet. A lovely member of the Miss L Fire USA team contacted me to ask if I'd be interested in a collaboration with their company and once my feet had come back down to the ground, I said yes at the speed of light.

Miss L Fire very kindly let me select from a number of their styles that were/are currently on sale and still available then in my size (a US 8/UK size 39), and after much deliberation (I sincerely adored them all), I opted for the alluringly beautiful navy blue and white Casablanca heels, which I'm wearing in today's photos.

I had seen these shoes on numerous vintage and rockabilly blogs, as well as on social media, and had fallen hard for them since my first visual encounter, so ultimately I knew they were the pair for me. Even then though, I was aware of the fact that there was a degree of risk involved. You see, I don't have the world's easiest to fit feet (uber high arches, a width that tends to fall between average and wide in most brands, slightly uneven sized feet, etc) and have had some really lousy luck when it comes to ordering shoes online - or even buying them in person.

In fact, almost every pair of shoes I've purchased online over the years ended up having to be returned or resold, and as a result I've pretty much stopped purchasing shoes from the ol' internets (not an easy thing for a shoe lover like myself to do by any stretch of the imagination!). As such, I will fully admit to being a bit anxious about my first Miss L Fire's. What, I worried, would I do if they didn't fit?

Never have I launched into opening a package that just arrived as quickly as I did my lovely Miss L Fire delivery got her (and was lovely - Miss L Fire has custom branded mailing bags, awesome red and white gingham shoe boxes, and include a wonderful fabric shoe storage bag as part of every order). Taking a deep breath and crossing my red lacquer tipped nails, I slipped the shoes on and much to my unending delight, my Casablanca heels fit. Not just fit, but fit well and were (are!) very comfortable.

I wore them for the first time this past Sunday, which is when we did the shoot for today's post for a few hours in total, as we were celebrating my mom's birthday immediately after we took these snaps and my toes were completely happy campers when I slipped them off at the end of the evening (and talk about lucking out on the weather front, as it's been very overcast and/or rainy almost every other day for the past couple of weeks).

These shoes are sturdy, comfortable and marvelously beautiful. Rarely, no matter the price point, have I tried on or owned shoes that felt as as solid, durable and reliable as these Miss L Fires do. Their soles have some traction grip to them, the inner foot beds are soft, the sides and top (on me at least) don't pinch or cause blisters, and the whole shoe itself is nothing short of a joy to wear.

Though having one style of Miss L Fire shoes fit me is not a guarantee that all their others - be they past, present, or future - would, it's an immensely encouraging sign that I could have good luck on the fit from from them again in the future. Given that I've now fallen even more in love with their products and sincerely hope to purchase future pairs, this is a very good thing indeed!!!

Speaking of purchasing Miss L Fire's offering, for the first time ever, the company is going to have a booth set up this year's Viva Las Vegas rockabilly and vintage convention in Vegas, where they'll be selling select shoe styles and other fabulous merchandise, as well as providing Viva updates on their Instagram account throughout this rocking multi-day event. This is especially cool - and handy - for those, like myself, who may have held off on buying online because of hard-to-fit feet or any other reason, but who have been yearning for a pair (or ten!) of Miss L Fire's fabulous vintage style offerings.

In addition, some of Miss L Fire's gorgeous products will be featured at the Viva fashion show, which is definitely one of the best suited spots on the planet I could ever imagine for this sparklingly fantastic offerings. Seriously, as you gals and guys know, I never let the fact that I received a product as a review item influence my judgment or what I say about said item, so it is with absolute sincerity that I sing Miss L Fire's praises from the highest of rooftops.

I knew that in putting together my first ever outfit (and outfit post involving) for my new Casablanca heels, I wanted to channel a bit of a nautical vibe, as that's the first impression that dark blue and white polka dots like the ones on these stellar heels telegraph to me. As it's still early April though and the weather, though slowly improving a touch, isn't exact sweltering yet, a full on summertime nautical look seemed a bit much, so I opted for solid red and blue garments with an assortment of white and red accessories.

One of which is this fabulously cute c. 1940s plastic novelty binoculars brooch that I bought a year, or maybe even two now, ago on eBay. I'd been wanting one of them for ages, and finally happened to luck out and win the auction on this charmer. Between the fact that it too has a bit of nautical feel to it and that the area where we shot this shoot, Vaseux Lake between Okanagan Falls and Oliver, is well know for being a hotbed of bird watching activity, it really seemed like the right brooch to partner with this outfit.

Though there is still a seriously lack of blooms and blossoms around these parts, and some days are struggling to hit double (Celsius) digits, one does sense that spring is slowly rounding the bend again. I'm thrilled about this, not only because of the sunshine and many perks and exciting things to enjoy all season long, but because it means that I'll get to sport my new Miss L Fire's time and time again all the way until fall's icy cold front barrels into town again (and even then, they can of course be worn indoors).

One thing that I especially love about Miss L Fire, and which I'm sure will help land further pairs in my closet, is the fact that put their past season's stock on heavily discounted sale once the new season's is unveiled on their website. Case in point, these Casablanca heels originally retailed for $180.00 US, but are now on sale for just $49.00, with similarly slashed prices on many of their other styles from 2013. For those who may not be able to squeeze a pair of full priced Miss L Fire's into their budget normally, these sales may be able to help make that happen for you - and of course, they're awesome for shoe lovers everywhere, regardless of budget, because there isn't a fashionista alive who doesn't love a great sale!

Thank you again to Miss L Fire for bestowing my first pair of your magnificent offerings onto my feet. It's immensely fitting that the pair I selected is called Casablanca, because all it took was the first moment of slipping them onto my feet to know that, to borrow a line from the iconic movie that shares these heel's name, this was the beginning of a beautiful (footwear) friendship!

    1. Thank you very much, sweet Sascha. I love this silhouette on me as well (save for the slight "pooling" of the shirt near the waistband) and turn to it often in the warmer months in particular, when multiple layers - a must during the Canadian winter - are no longer required.

    2. Dearest Jessica. If you don't mind a bit of sewing, you might be interested in one of my little tricks. I am quite short waisted and therefore also struggle with 'pooling' of tucked in shirts. Consequently, what I do is to alter my shirts into 'gab jackets'. I basically cut the shirt off just below the waist and create a tight waistband about 2'' wide from the cut off material. (you can also use other fabric or grosgrain ribbon here). I then gather the blouse into the waistband, which I close with a couple of hooks. It then sits neatly on the waist, just where it meets the skirt and looks very tidy....without pooling!

    3. Excellent, easy to understand technique, lovely Sascha, thank you very much for sharing it with me.

      Have a splendid Wednesday,

  9. I *heart* this outfit! I normally shy away from red white and blue outfits myself, but I LOVE this!! I especially love the brooch (I'm such a sucker for plastic novelty pins!!) and the whole thing is just great (the shoes are just the icing on the top, er, bottom.) :)

  11. Your shoes are gorgeous. I love looking at the new styles when they come out. I did have one pair but they killed my poor feet so I sold them which has made me reluctant to invest in another. I absolutely love your brooch! Love it, love it, love it.

  12. Gorgeous shoes Jessica! Of course, you had me at polka dots...but seriously, these are cute, cute, cute! And the lining! What fun! You do deserve such a lovely package of gingham and goodness!

  13. Hello Jessica,

Oh, Yes! Your shoes are adorable! I have always favored polka-dots. They can be fun and classy at the same time.

Usually I wear flats because they are so practical and hardly ever wear heels, but I LOVE them.

I kept jumping back and forth between Miss L Fire and your blog while reading your post. They have so many exciting things to see.

I also just love your binoculars brooch. What a great find! It is perfect with your red, white, and blue outfit.

Your mountain lake location looks like a gorgeous place to visit and must be especially nice in Summer.

Hope you are enjoying good weather today,

  15. You look beautiful, as always, and I so love your shoes! My feet are usually easy to fit, but I've had some bad experiences buying online, too. I've drooled over Miss L. Fire shoes for years, but they're a little too expensive for me to justify buying them without trying them on.
I love the outfit you styled them and that brooch is amazing.

  19. Love your new shoes! I really like the ballet flats they have this season but they're a bit too pricey for me (at least for a pair of flats!) The nautical colours in your outfit look great on you too!

  20. wonderful spring/summer outfit. i have long been an admirer of that brand of shoes, but i have such strange (and large) hooves that ordering online has become a hassle. perhaps i should just take the plunge, especially after seeing that beautiful pair on you.
once again, you have styled something very darling (i just love the red, white and blue scheme) in such a wonderful place.
i declare, the back ground and scenery in your outfit pictures rival the very outfits themselves!

  21. OH MY GOODNESS! You look so quintessentially patriotic-vintage-gorgeous, and the shoes really do have a fabulously 40 vibe to them! Even the shape of them, for some reason, have a 40s vibe rather than a modern-day heel. (40s shoes always seem rounder and make the feet look smaller than in modern shoes, it seems to me.)
And I'm also loving your brooch. I am getting into novelty brooches (as in I may have accidentally squandered an hour or so looking at them just yesterday), and this one is so fun! You look amazing, and now I'm an even bigger fan of Miss L Fire shoes! Like you, I've admired them since I first saw them, but I have yet to add any to my closet. But my fingers are crossed! Hopefully in the future!

    1. Huge thanks for your splendidly nice comment (compliments!), dear Em! You're right, I was thinking nautical colour palette (which it is), but for those in the US, UK, France and a few other countries, these are full on patriotic hues (drop the blue and they would be Canada's as well). Love that! :)

Aren't novelty brooches fantastic? They're amongst my favourite kinds of brooches and I try to add a new one to my collection every few months, if possible. My most recent, at long last (given how popular/common they were and still are with collectors), was a c. 1930s celluloid scottie dog. What are some of the the types you've been eyeing lately?

  23. Love those shoes! I love all Miss L Fire shoes, really! They have such a great vintage flair with just the right amount of quirky touches and details. Unfortunately, many of them are made with leather, which I don't wear, but I can definitely appreciate them from afar!
Plus, they always have those cute fabric espadrilles...
Your outfit is fabulous and that brooch is the perfect addition! Those little novelty brooches are the best. :-)

  24. Oh, the shoes are adorable! I love the look of Miss L Fire, but sadly I cannot wear heels anymore :( Sometimes I just ignore the pain for the sake of a dressed up evening, but I always wonder if it was worth it the next day :) Oh well.. Enjoy your new lovelies ;)

  26. I'm so in awe of the awesome photography:) Okay, now polka dot shoes, how can you not adore these? What a fabulous choice and if I lived closer they may just be missing and implanted on my feet like Dorothy...who needs red sparkly shoes when you can have polka dots, with bows none the less?:) I have a few of their shoes and they are so fun with the patterns and designs. Also, I must make a comment about the backdrop, to be among all those glorious pine trees and blue water. Just breathtaking! I'd like a house right spot in there:) Very lovely outfit dear Jessica and accessorized so well:)

    1. You could borrow them anytime your heart desires, if you lived nearby, sweet Joanna. I believe our feet are about the same size, no? So true - I love a good hit of sparkle, but polka dots can be every bit as magical, too.

There are houses right on that lake (and possibly a small campground, too, but don't quote me there) and they're beautiful. Tony has said before that he'd happily get one there, if he could - instant fishing access, which would make him a very happy angler. There are a lot of lakes around there though, including many closer to town and cities, so if we were looking to move near the water, one of those might be a more likely choice. Just have to win the lottery first... :D

Thank you very much for your splendidly lovely comment from both of us (Tony's right here beside me and I shared your comment, as it's a complement to him).

When I selecting the pair I wanted to review, such was not the case (which in a way made my decision process a lot harder). I'm going to be watching their site a hawk around the end of summer, as the F/W '14 line is released to see if I can perhaps snag a pair of the S/S offerings in my size on sale. If you do the same, I hope you're able to get one you love in your size for a deep discount, too.

  33. Wow, what a cute pair! I don't have any MLF shoes either, because I've always thought the brand was US, but now learning they're British I will keep an eye on their sales. Ordering bigger things from the US ruins me when I have to pay VAT and tax. Ouch! But I have a pair of shoes almost like yours from another brand, they are black with white dots and I have a skirt and dress which they match perfectly, I always get compliments wearing them. :)

    1. They have sites in both US and UK currencies, which is awesome for folks in both parts of the world. I hear you loud and clear! I get hit with all of those say kinds of things when importing to Canada from anywhere in the world, but there's so little vintage/repro in Canada (by and large) online or off, that I have little choice but to order from the States and abroad. Those kinds of expenses sure do eat into one's budget quickly though, so it can pay to save up and order multiple items from the same seller or company at once sometimes.

Your B&W polka dot shoes sound marvelous!!!

I will definitely save this outfit for the 4th of July. We don't celebrate it as a nation here in Canada, as our own country's birthday is a special day (Canada Day on July 1st) unto itself, but I still enjoy celebrating in spirit (and fashion choices) with my friends south of the border.

Big hugs & many thanks for your great comments,

    1. Thank you very much, darling Beta! I love injecting splashes of cuteness into my wardrobe, which at times can be considerably easier with spring, summer and early fall attire than with ten layers in the winter, so that's yet another reason why I'm elated that we're finally starting to enter spring here again.

Isn't that brooch just darling? I've been saving it for just the right outfit to debut it online and given the colour palette at work here, this one was certainly it! :)

Tons of hugs & many thanks for both of your great blog comments today,
      ♥ Jessica

  51. I don't often wear polka dot patterns, ( I don't know exactly why! ) but I always like them when I happen to see on others... your shoes are very cute!
Your outfit is lovable... blue and red is a spring combination of colours...
    p.s.
    What a nice place!

    1. Hi Christy, you are wholeheartedly welcome!!! It's one of my favourite skirts in my closet and gets a lot of play, especially during the warmer months (it even came along with me, and was worn, on holiday, my first in several years, to Calgary, Alberta last year).

I really appreciate your lovely comment and hope that you have a splendid weekend!

  61. I've been drooling over their shoes for some time now! (The Casablanca heels in particular-- great choice!) You've written a wonderful review for them! Now I doubly want a pair (or ten) of their shoes! I just visited their store too. Terribly cute! And they're all so helpful!
